Ash-Shu'arâ : The Poets

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

‫ﻃﺴﻢ‬
TaSinMim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'an, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.]
26:1

These are the Verses of the manifest Book [this Qur'an, which was promised by Allah in the Taurat (Torah) and the
Injeel (Gospel), makes things clear].
26:2

It may be that you (O Muhammad SAW) are going to kill yourself with grief, that they do not become believers [in
your Risalah (Messengership) and in your Message of Islamic Monotheism].
26:3

If We will, We could send down to them from the heaven a sign, to which they would bend their necks in humility.
26:4

And never comes there unto them a Reminder as a recent revelation from the Most Beneficent (Allah), but they
turn away therefrom.
26:5

So they have indeed denied (the truth this Qur'an), then the news of what they mocked at, will come to them.
26:6

Do they not observe the earth, how much of every good kind We cause to grow therein?
26:7

Verily, in this is an Ayah (proof or sign), yet most of them (polytheists, pagans, etc., who do not believe in
Resurrection) are not believers.
26:8
And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All -Mighty, the Most Merciful.
26:9

And (remember) when your Lord called Musa (Moses) (saying): "Go to the people who are Zalimun (polytheists
and wrong-doing),
26:10

The people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh). Will they not fear Allah and become righteous?"
26:11

He said: "My Lord! Verily, I fear that they will belie me,
26:12

"And my breast straitens, and my tongue expresses not well. So send for Harun (Aaron) (to come along with me).
26:13

"And they have a charge of crime against me, and I fear they will kill me."
26:14

Allah said: "Nay! Go you both with Our Signs. Verily! We shall be with you, listening.
26:15

"And when you both come to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), say: 'We are the Messengers of the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind,
jinns and all that exists),
26:16

"So allow the Children of Israel to go with us.' "
26:17
[Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said [to Musa (Moses)]: "Did we not bring you up among us as a child? And you did dwell
many years of your life with us.
26:18

"And you did your deed, which you did (i.e. the crime of killing a man). And you are one of the ingrates."
26:19

Musa (Moses) said: "I did it then, when I was an ignorant (as regards my Lord and His Message).
26:20

"So I fled from you when I feared you. But my Lord has granted me Hukman (i.e. religious knowledge, right
judgement of the affairs and Prophethood), and appointed me as one of the Messengers.
26:21

"And this is the past favour with which you reproach me, that you have enslaved the Children of Israel."
26:22

Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "And what is the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)?"
26:23

Musa (Moses) said: "Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, if you seek to be convinced
with certainty."
26:24

Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said to those around: "Do you not hear (what he says)?"
26:25

Musa (Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your ancient fathers!"
26:26
Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Verily, your Messenger who has been sent to you is a madman!"
26:27

Musa (Moses) said: "Lord of the east and the west, and all that is between them, if you did but understand!"
26:28

Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "If you choose an ilah (god) other than me, I will certainly put you among the prisoners."
26:29

Musa (Moses) said: "Even if I bring you something manifest (and convincing)?"
26:30

Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Bring it forth then, if you are of the truthful!"
26:31

So [Musa (Moses)] threw his stick, and behold, it was a serpent, manifest.
26:32

And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to all beholders!
26:33

[Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said to the chiefs around him: "Verily! This is indeed a well -versed sorcerer.
26:34

"He wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery, then what is it your counsel, and what do you command?"
26:35
They said: "Put him off and his brother (for a while), and send callers to the cities;
26:36

"To bring up to you every well -versed sorcerer."
26:37

So the sorcerers were assembled at a fixed time on a day appointed.
26:38

And it was said to the people: "Are you (too) going to assemble?
26:39

"That we may follow the sorcerers [who were on Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) religion of disbelief] if they are the winners."
26:40

So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Fir'aun (Pharaoh): "Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the
winners?"
26:41

He said: "Yes, and you shall then verily be of those brought near (to myself)."
26:42

Musa (Moses) said to them: "Throw what you are going to throw!"
26:43

So they threw their ropes and their sticks, and said: "By the might of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), it is we who will certainly
win!"
26:44
Then Musa (Moses) threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all the falsehoods which they showed!
26:45

And the sorcerers fell down prostrate.
26:46

Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
26:47

"The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)."
26:48

[Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "You have believed in him before I give you leave. Surely, he indeed is your chief, who
has taught you magic! So verily, you shall come to know. Verily, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite
sides, and I will crucify you all."
26:49

They said: "No harm! Surely, to our Lord (Allah) we are to return;
26:50

"Verily! We really hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we are the first of the believers [in Musa (Moses)
and in the Monotheism which he has brought from Allah]."
26:51

And We inspired Musa (Moses), saying: "Take away My slaves by night, verily, you will be pursued."
26:52

Then Fir'aun (Pharaoh) sent callers to (all) the cities.
26:53

(Saying): "Verily! These indeed are but a small band.
26:54

"And verily, they have done what has enraged us;
26:55

"But we are host all assembled, amply fore -warned."
26:56

So, We expelled them from gardens and springs,
26:57

Treasures, and every kind of honourable place.
26:58

Thus [We turned them (Pharaoh's people) out] and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit them.
26:59

So they pursued them at sunrise.
26:60

And when the two hosts saw each other, the companions of Musa (Moses) said: "We are sure to be overtaken."
26:61

[Musa (Moses)] said: "Nay, verily! With me is my Lord, He will guide me."
26:62
Then We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Strike the sea with your stick." And it parted, and each separate part
(of that sea water) became like the huge, firm mass of a mountain.
26:63

Then We brought near the others [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) party] to that place.
26:64

And We saved Musa (Moses) and all those with him.
26:65

Then We drowned the others.
26:66

Verily! In this is indeed a sign (or a proof), yet most of them are not believers.
26:67

And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All -Mighty, the Most Merciful.
26:68

And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham).
26:69

When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?"
26:70

They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted."
26:71
He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)?
26:72

"Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?"
26:73

They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so."
26:74

He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping,
26:75

"You and your ancient fathers?
26:76

"Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists);
26:77

"Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me;
26:78

"And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink.
26:79

"And when I am ill, it is He who cures me;
26:80

"And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again);
26:81

"And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection),"
26:82

My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join
me with the righteous;
26:83

And grant me an honourable mention in later generations;
26:84

And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight;
26:85

And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring;
26:86

And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected;
26:87

The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail,
26:88

Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)].
26:89

َ‫ﺖ اﻟْﺠَﻨﱠﺔُ ﻟِﻠْﻤُﺘﱠﻘِﯿﻦ‬

And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2).
26:90

26:192

Which the trustworthy Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] has brought down;
26:193

Upon your heart (O Muhammad SAW) that you may be (one) of the warners,
26:194

In the plain Arabic language.
26:195

And verily, it (the Qur'an, and its revelation to Prophet Muhammad SAW) is (announced) in the Scriptures [i.e. the
Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] of former people.
26:196

Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of
Israel knew it (as true)?
26:197

And if We had revealed it (this Qur'an) unto any of the non -Arabs,
26:198

And he had recited it unto them, they would not have believed in it.
26:199
Thus have We caused it (the denial of the Qur'an) to enter the hearts of the Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists,
sinners, etc.).
26:200

They will not believe in it until they see the painful torment;
26:201

It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not;
26:202

Then they will say: "Can we be respited?"
26:203

Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on?
26:204

Tell Me, if We do let them enjoy for years,
26:205

And afterwards comes to them that (punishment) which they had been promised!
26:206

All that with which they used to enjoy shall not avail them.
26:207

And never did We destroy a township, but it had its warners
26:208
By way of reminder, and We have never been unjust.
26:209

And it is not the Shayatin (devils) who have brought it (this Qur'an) down,
26:210

Neither would it suit them, nor they can (produce it).
26:211

Verily, they have been removed far from hearing it.
26:212

So invoke not with Allah another ilah (god) lest you be among those who receive punishment.
26:213

And warn your tribe (O Muhammad SAW) of near kindred.
26:214

َ‫ﻚ ﻣِﻦَ اﻟْﻤُﺆْﻣِﻨِﯿﻦ‬

And be kind and humble to the believers who follow you.
26:215

Then if they disobey you, say: "I am innocent of what you do."
26:216

And put your trust in the All -Mighty, the Most Merciful,
26:217

Who sees you (O Muhammad SAW) when you stand up (alone at night for Tahajjud prayers).
26:218

And your movements among those who fall prostrate (along with you to Allah in the five compulsory
congregational prayers).
26:219

Verily! He, only He, is the All -Hearer, the All-Knower.
26:220

Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend?
26:221

They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person.
26:222

Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of
them are liars.
26:223

As for the poets, the erring follow them,
26:224

See you not that they speak about every subject (praising others right or wrong) in their poetry?
26:225

And that they say what they do not do.
26:226

Except those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, and remember
Allah much, and reply back (in poetry) to the unjust poetry (which the pagan poets utter against the Muslims). And
those who do wrong will come to know by what overturning they will be overturned.
