CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

In 2013, The Philippine Department of Education Introduced the enhanced Basic


Education Curriculum, which established the Senior High School Program. It was initiated due
to the previous administration’s belief that will help minimize unemployment and help give more
time for students to decide which career to pursue depending on their acquired skills. This
program adds two years on Secondary level, other than kindergarten.

This study aimed to further explore the challenges and perceptions of Technical Vocational
Livelihood students to their Performance task. The major stressor of Technical Vocational is a
performance task which requires knowledge and skills. The challenges that students commonly
encountered in performing the task or activity is having difficulties in some skills and their
attitude towards their Performance. There are instances that Performance task are done with
peers or with support from other students in the hope of helping the learners to accomplish the
task. It was also indicated that students were having difficulty dealing with members when the
performance task is performed by groups. There are two kinds of perceptions, the negative and
positive perceptions on the performance Task of TVL students.

This study sought to find out the challenges encountered in performance task. Specifically,
to investigates the challenges and perceptions of Technical Vocational Livelihood students. This
study will also investigate the strategies they employ in dealing with the challenges they faced.

Statement of the problem

This study aims to determine the challenges that they experience and the perception of senior
High School Students on Technical vocational Livelihood. Specifically, it aims to answer the
following questions.

1. What are the challenges that TVL students experience?


2. What are perceptions of students regarding the TVL strand and its contribution?
3. What are the strategies they employ in coping with the challenges that they experience?
4. What are the motivations by the TVL students to overcome the challenges that they face?

Significance of the study

Since there is a limited literature exists which they experience of Senior High School
Students

Scope and delimitation

This investigation as conducted, to determine the challenges and perceptions of TVL


students on their performance task in one of the public Senior High School of Bacolod City the
challenges experience of TVL students during the School Year 2023-2024 and the different
strategies they applied in coping the challenges.
