• This study attempts to know the effects of the availability of cooking and baking equipment
during a practical application on academic performance of TVL Students in Quezon City High School. This
study aims to know the problem of students encounter in terms of availability in cooking equipment during
practical application and how it affects their academic performance. This study will give readers an
overview of the entire contents of this research as well as how the researchers plan to solve the particular
problem.
Covid-19 pandemic has brought a disruption in the world especially in the field of education. Mateo
(2021) mentioned in his article that government officials had immediately suspended the traditional face-
to-face classes with the threat of high transmission among students during early 2020. The Department of
Education had set an alternative learning modality (Briones, 2020), whereby teaching is undertaken
remotely and on digital platforms. The track under the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) in the Senior
High School (SHS) were also limited and the practical demonstration can be done at home. However,
Technical vocational strand focuses on the skill competencies of the students which is a vital basis for
their academic performance.

Practical skills is acquired through learning-by-doing, which occurs in laboratories or through


hands-on experience through work immersion. New normal set-up of learning are now seen as a weak
substitute for practical exercises when they require the use of equipment or materials not usually found
inside the home. In general, TVL specializations that struggle most with adjustment to distance learning
are those that depend heavily on learning-by-doing (Galias, 2020). In the usual set-up, that is in the
laboratory where materials, tools, and equipment are readily available, students perform exactly what is
expected of them. However, since direct contact between the teacher and students is prohibited, students
will be obliged to turn a portion of their house as the laboratory. Some students might don't have cooking
and baking equipment to do the practical application and it can affect their academic performance.

Therefore, the researchers will focus on the availability of cooking and baking equipment of TVL
students during practical application and how it affects their academic performance.

• The researchers observed that some of students in TVL Home Economics strand don't have
equipment to do the practical application. Some of students forced to buy cooking and baking equipment
even though some of them have financial problem in order to do the practical application and to fulfill the
requirements needed in specialization subject such as cookery, bread and pastry production and food
and beverages services. Tools and equipment are essential in TVL strand especially, in cookery and
bread and pastry production. This is a component so that they can do the practical application in which
students will present what they have learned.

Some of students have nothing to buy because the equipment needed is unavailable to their place
so they will find a way to have equipment like find alternative equipment needed in practical application.
Nevertheless, some students have cooking and baking equipment to do the practical application so it's
easy to them to fulfill the requirements in specialized subject.
The researchers are interested in this topic because the researchers itself experienced this
situation and it is related to researchers' strand and subject. The researchers conducted this research to
investigate the problem faced by the students during practical application and what will be the
recommendation of the researchers based on the study.

Covid-19 – is a virus caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It causes infection in your nose, throat, cough,
fever, and shortness of breath.

Equipment – is the necessary items for a particular purpose.

Laboratory – is a facility that provides controlled conditions in which scientific or technological research,
experiments, and measurement may be performed.

Distance learning – is a form of education in which the main elements include physical separation of
teachers and students during instruction and the use of various technologies to facilitate student-teacher
and student-student communication.

✔ What is the purpose of the study? (what is aimed to be in the future or the gap to be filled–in by the
research)
• The main purpose of this study is to know the effects of the availability of cooking and baking
equipment during a practical application on academic performance of TVL Students in Quezon City High
School. It aims to know the different struggles of TVL students in terms of availability in cooking and
baking equipment during practical application. Some TVL students experience of not having equipment
because of financial problem and some students can afford the equipment needed for the practical
application. This particular problem might have impact on the academic performance of the students. The
researchers want to know what will be the effect of having and not having cooking and baking equipment
to their academic performance. The result of this study can give an idea what will be the better
implementation for TVL students so that they will not spend so much money for the equipment.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study attempts to know the effects of the availability of cooking and baking equipment during a

practical application on academic performance of TVL Students in Quezon City High School. To address

the different situation of the TVL student during their practical performance.

Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions:

1.) What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.2 Gender
1.3 Grade level

2.) What are the effects of having equipment during practical application on the academic
performance of TVL students?

3.) What are the possible problems of students who don't have enough equipment that might
encounter during practical application?

4.) What is the relationship of availability of cooking and baking equipment to financial status
of TVL students?

5.) What are the recommendation based on the result of the study?

The problem statement is the researcher’s guide during the research process. It is the verbalization and articulations as
well as the analysis of the “questions” in which the researcher wants the research to answer. It is a concise description of
an issue that needs to be addressed.

It is divided into the major/main points and the minor points/subproblems. Major problem is the verbalization of the specific
“questions.” ( Stated declaratively or interrogatively.)

Main Problem: What are the factors that affect the teaching skills of teachers? (Interrogative)

Main Problem: This study aims to design and develop an online course in Human Behavior in the Organization at the
Graduate Level.
The statement of the problem should start with a general statement of the major problem. (Consistent with the
title) then, broken up into subproblems in the form of specific questions. Usually, the general problem is a restatement of
the title of the study. The number of specific sub-problems or questions that call for a test of differences and/or
relationships will also depend on the scope of the investigation. Descriptive questions need no predictions or hypotheses.

Briefly describes the condition or situation that exists which is perceived as something less than the ideal, or what
it should be and how you see it to be.

It answers the following:

outcome of this study will give benefits to the following:

Students. The outcome of this research will help the students to address the different problems that they
encountered during practical application.

Teacher. The outcome of this research will help the teachers to know the possible situation of the TVL
student during the practical application. To give them an idea to come up with a better implementation
that will help the students.

Parents. The outcome of this research will help the parents to discern the situation of their child during
their practical application and also, so that they can help their child to solve the problem that their child is
facing.

Future Researcher. The outcome of this research can help the future researcher with related topic who
wants to have some additional information and further research.
