GENERAL INFORMATION
A minimum of six sheets of size (84-" x 11 ")OR three sheets size (11" x 17'') paper
Personal Computer with monitor, keyboard, mouse and printer
Computer-Aided Drafting Software
N.B. ALL solutions to questions attempted for this Option MUST be submitted, printed
on sheets of paper.
3. When first-angle or third-angle is not specified, the choice of projection is left to the
candidate's discretion, in which case the type of projection used MUST be clearly stated.
4. The candidate should use his/her own judgement to supply any dimensions or other details
not directly shown on the drawings.
5. The number of each question answered MUST be written next to the solution.
6. Each candidate MUST enter his/her school code and registration number in the appropriate
space at the bottom right-hand corner of the drawing paper.
This paper has TWO sections: Assembly Drawing, and Sketch and Design OR 3D Solid Model
Design Drawing.
Answer ONE question from Assembly Drawing, and ONE question from Sketch and Design OR
3D Solid Model Design Drawing.
Candidates MAY use EITHER the Traditional Drawing Method OR the Computer-Aided Drafting
Method.
Assembly Drawing
1. Figure 1, on one of the enclosed sheets, shows the first-angle orthographic projection details of
the parts that make up a machine vice assembly. In assembly, the fixed jaw plate G), is secured
to the body CD by three countersunk screws G). The moving jaw plate @) is secured to the
moving jaw C1) by the remaining three countersunk screws ® . The tommy bar @) fits into the
adjusting screw (j) which fits into the body CD and controls the moving jaw @ .
(a) Draw, FULL SIZE, in first-angle or third-angle orthographic projection, the following
views of the fully assembled machine vice with the jaw plates 20 mm apart:
(ii) A FULL sectional front elevation taken on the cutting plane line A-A
(b) Show SIX main dimensions including a length, a diameter, a radius and a metric screw
thread specification.
(c) Print the title, 'Machine Vice Assembly', the scale used, and show the projection method
used by the symbol.
(80 marks)
2. Figure 2, on one of the enclosed sheets, shows the first-angle orthographic projection details
of the parts that make up a grinding attachment assembly. In assembly, the rest G) is secured to
the body@ by a Ml2 hexagonal bolt and plain washer. The body G) is secured to the base CD
by two MlO hexagonal bolts and plain washers.
(a) Draw FULL SIZE, in first-angle or third-angle orthographic projection, the following
views of the fully assembled grinding attachment:
(ii) A FULL sectional front elevation taken on the cutting plane line B-B
(b) Show SIX main dimensions, including a length, a diameter, a radius and a metric screw
thread specification.
(c) Print the title 'Grinding Attachment Assembly', the scale used, and show the projection
method used by the symbol.
(80 marks)
3. Make neat, well-proportioned, sectional orthographic sketches to illustrate any THREE of the
following types of sections:
(i) Half (two views required)
(ii) Local (one view required)
(iii) Off-set (two views required)
(iv) Revolved (one view required)
(v) Aligned (two views required) (20 m arks)
4. Figure 3 shows the body of a wheel cylinder which is used in the braking system of a car.
