You are on page 1of 1

Try several starting points, including (1,1), (-1,-1), (0,0), and (1000,1000).

What do you find? Why do you think this is happening?

C.
Starting point Minimum surface area Optimal dimensions
[1, 1] 22.352 1.175, 2.305
[-1, 1] 22.352 1.175, 2.305
[0, 0] 34.0012 1.175, 2.305
[1000, 1000] 2.23e+07 1.175, 2.305

We always have the same values for the optimal dimensions.

The value of minimum surface area variates, because when we are starting with
different points the approximations will be close to the starting point and will find
the closest value for the optimization.
