Linear Equation is an equation in two variables which can be written in two forms:

 Standard Form: Ax + By = C , where A, B, and C ∈ R , A and B not both 0; and

 Slope-Intercept Form: y=mx+b , where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept, m∧b ∈ R.

Example 1. Rewrite the equation 3 x−5 y=10 in the form y=mx+b . Determine its slope and y-
intercept.

Solution: 3 x−5 y=10

−5 y=10−3 x
−5 y=−3 x +10

(−5 y )= (−3 x+10)

Example 2. Rewrite the equation y= x +3 in the form Ax+By=C.
