I. Objectives 1.Identify the different type of forces

A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of :
Newton’s Three Laws of Motion.
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to develop a written
plan and implement a “Newton’s Olympics”
C. MELCs Investigate the relationship between the amount
of force applied and the mass of the object to the
amount of change in the objects motion (S8FE-Ia-
15)
II. Content Work and energy: Potential Energy
III. Learning Resources Module
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages Teacher’s Guide
2. Learner’s Material Pages Grade 8 science module pp.26-38
3. Textbook Pages
4. Additional Materials for Learning
resources (LR) portal
B. Other Learning Resources
IV. Procedures
1. ELICIT What is Potential energy?
How can you compute PE?
What is the unit of PE?
2.ENGAGE  Show pictures to the class.
 Let them describe the pictures. What kind
of energy do you think the pictures
illustrated?
a. Massive ball of a demolition machine
b. Stretched bow
1. Explore  Group student into five groups.Allow each
group to solve for the potential energy.
 Determining potential energy
 By its position and weight.
 (mass X gravity)
 PE = (mass)(gravity)(height) = mgh
 G is the force of gravity = 9.8 m/s2
 H is the height
 The SI unit tht represents potential energy
is the Joule (J)m 2/s 2
Examine an example of potential energy
a. A flower pot with a mass of 15kg is sitting
on a window sill 15 meters above the
ground.How much potential energy does
the flower pot contain?
PE= (mass )(gravity)(height)
= (15kg)(9.8 m/s2)(15m)
=2205kg.m2/s2
= 2205 j
2. Explain Solve:
1. If the mass of the loaded cart os 0.3kg and the
height of the seat top is 0.45meters. what will
be its potential energy?
2. A 50kg object is located 5 meters above the
ground level. Find its potential energy?
Guide Questions.
1. What is potential energy?
2. How can you compute potential energy?
3. What is the unit of potential energy?
4. Elaborate  Potential energy is the energy of position
 The amount of energy contained in an object
at rest.
 Determining potential energy.
 By its position and its weight.
 ( mass X gravity)
 PE=(mass)(gravity)(height) or mgh
 Where M is the mass in kg
 G- force of gravity = 9.8 m/s2
 H height
 The SI unit that represents joule potential
energy is the (J) (kgm2/s2)
. 1. What is potential energy?
5. Evaluate 2. Find the potential energy of an object
having a mass of 0.2kg when placed on
top of a table 1.5m high.
6. Extend A. Identify if it is potential of kinetic energy?
 Moving car
 Tree branch
 Ballon squirting around the room
 Water held in a dam
 Moving car
B. Practice problem solving on potential energy.
