Question 1 (Marks: 100)

Read and base your answer on the case study presented below
LU 1- 10

You have been promoted to Team Leader of your development team while designing a new e-
commerce application called BuyAlot. Your team has developed an initial prototype of the website
that has the following functional requirements:
1. The system shall allow users to create an account
2. The system shall allow users to login to their account
3. The system shall display a list of discounts that update on a daily basis.
4. The system shall allow users to select an item to view all of its details
5. The system shall allow users to add an item to their cart
6. The system shall allow users to search items by name or by category
7. The system shall allow users to sort and filter search results
8. The system shall send a confirmation email when a new user account is created or product
is purchased.

This assignment requires you to write a test plan for the application described above for any three
of the functional requirements described above. In completing the assignment, please use the test
plan template provided at https://www.fit.vutbr.cz/study/courses/ITS/public/ieee829.html (see
Learning Unit 2, Activity 1). The template is based on the IEEE 829 Test Plan template. In order to
complete this assignment, you will have to research the IEEE 829 Test Plan template in order to
determine how you need to complete the various sections in the template.

Your assignment needs to conform to the following 19 headings as per the test plan template:

1. Test Plan Identifier

2. References
3. Introduction
4. Test Items
5. Software Risk Issues
6. Features to be Tested
7. Features not to be Tested
8. Approach
9. Item Pass/Fail Criteria

10. Suspension Criteria and Resumption Requirements

11. Test Deliverables
12. Remaining Test Tasks
13. Environmental Needs
14. Staffing and Training Needs
15. Responsibilities
16. Schedule
17. Planning Risks and Contingencies
18. Approvals
19. Glossary

You need to provide the necessary details and explanations for each section of the template. The
completion of each section should be based on your research on how to complete the template as
well as your own knowledge that you have obtained on how to test an application.

You should also include a “References” section as the last section in your assignment. Note that this
section should be used to reference all sources referred to in your assignment. See Plagiarism in
the SQAT6312 Module Guide for referencing guidelines. Please note that this section is not the
same as Section 2 (References) as seen in the IEEE 829 Test Plan template.

IMPORTANT: To enable the examiner to evaluate whether you understand why you included
certain information in the various sections of your test plan, you need to include an “Explanation”
section at the end of each section in the test plan. In other words, you need to explain why you
have included the information that you did in each section of the test plan. Each section will thus
end with an “Explanation” section for all 19 Sections of the test plan. Ensure that you refer to the
IEEE 829 Test Plan template guidelines in these explanations. You will determine these guidelines
through your research and information in your textbook.

Mark allocation for each section:

Each section is marked based on both the content of the section, as well as the explanation provided. An explanation should demonstrate clearly why a
student has included specific content in a given section, and should refer in specific terms to how the content aligns with the textbook or any other
relevant resource that is appropriately referenced by the student. Examiners should, therefore, use their discretion in determining the marks to award
within the parameters of the rubric.
