SERVE POLICY AND GUIDELINES

Date: February 11, 2022


Purpose: As a Ministry devoted in serving God by assisting in the liturgical
celebrations and services of the Holy Catholic Church, the Core aims to produce
well-rounded servers, possessing both skills in serving and knowledge about the
Liturgy.
Policy for Serve Proper: Drafted: February 2022
1. Policies for the Preparation before the Holy Mass
1.1. The servers should be present at the sacristy at least 30 minutes before
the start of the scheduled mass.
1.1.1. All the servers are given 15 minutes before the start of the mass
to prepare all the vessels, linens, altar candles, and other auxiliaries
to be used for the eucharistic celebration.]
1.2. Should the scheduled server arrived late, he may still proceed to serve
but might receive consequences in the members’ meeting.
1.3. The scheduled servers are required to mark their attendance right after
arriving at the sacristy or inform the secretariat committee to confirm their
attendance should attendance sheet is not available.
1.4. The servers should observe the proper decorum.
1.4.1. Servers are required to wear any MOAS shirt/white shirt, black
pants, black socks, and black shoes.
1.4.2. The server’s sutana and surplice should be fitted properly.
1.4.3. Having long hair and nails are not allowed.
1.5. Donning of sacred vestments should be done at the Perpetual
Adoration Chapel.
1.6. Guidelines for Functions;
1.5.1. Normal Sunday Mass (Crucifix, Boat, Ceriales 2, Main Server)
1.5.2. Solemnity Mass (Thurible, Boat, Candelabra 2, Crucifix, Bell 2)
2. Policies During the Holy Mass
2.1. The assigned function to a serve should be carried out throughout the
eucharistic celebration.
2.2. Unpleasant behavior or actions that may distract or affect the
eucharistic celebration will be sanctioned. The Member’s Welfare and
Development Committee shall deal with the concerned server/s on the
following members’ meeting.
2.3. Sacred vessels, images, and other objects used in the eucharist that are
damaged by a server are obliged to be replaced.
2.4. Sacred Vessels and other needed objects for the eucharistic
celebration (like paraffin oil, charcoal, incense, etc.) should be notified with
the Sacristan Mayor present at least 30 minutes before the start of the mass.
2.5. Servers are strictly not allowed to roam within the church premises or
stay at inappropriate locations (like stairs, hallways, adoration chapel,
offices, etc.) at the duration of the holy mass.
2.5.1. Servers are given designated places that they should follow for
the mass duration (within the sanctuary and sacristy)
2.5.2. Servers residing in the sacristy during the mass should arrange
seats and follow the ongoing eucharistic celebration.
3. Policies After the Holy Mass
3.1. All sacred vessels and auxiliaries used during the eucharistic celebration
should be cleaned and returned to their proper places (candelabras,
thurible, boat, etc.)
3.1.1. All wastes used during the mass should be disposed properly
and securely (ashes from the used charcoal and incense, foil, etc.)
3.1.2. The servers must follow the “Gamit mo, Linis mo”
implementation.
3.2. Doffing the of sacred vestments should be done at the Perpetual
Adoration Chapel.
3.3. The servers are required to bring their sacred vestments with them as
they leave the Cathedral Premises.
3.3.1. Leaving sacred vestments in the cathedral premises (PEAC or
COWL) is strictly not allowed.
3.3.2. The ministry will not be liable for any lost sacred vestments.
Policy for Simbang Gabi Serve: Drafted: December 2021
1. Policies for the Preparation before the Simbang Gabi Mass
1.1. All assigned servers should follow the “No I.D., no Entry” policy.
1.2. Assigned servers must be at the sacristy for at least 30 minutes before
the start of the Simbang Gabi mass.
1.2.1. Servers who will arrive later than the required time will be
replaced immediately.
1.3. Assigned Simbang Gabi servers should observed proper decorum.
1.3.1. Servers are required to wear any MOAS shirt/white shirt, black
pants, black socks, and black shoes.
1.3.2. The server’s sutana and surplice should be fitted properly.
1.3.3. Having long hair and nails are not allowed.
1.4. Borrowing of sacred vestments (Sutana and Surplice) are allowed, but
the ministry officers will not be liable for casualties and losses.
1.4.1. Servers can choose to extend and adjust their vestments if
needed, but not required to do so.
1.5. Functions of the servers depends on the mass time and the presider and
the functions will be distributed by the Officer-In-Charge; it is as follows;

2. Policies During the Simbang Gabi Mass
2.1. Servers that will be residing in the sacristy on the duration of the
Simbang Gabi mass would be the following functions (Candelabras,
Thurifer, and Boat)
2.1.1. The stand or the base of the cross or crucifix will be placed at
the back of the sanctuary, so that the cross bearer can remain at the
sanctuary and help the bell bearers during the Gloria.
2.1.2. The Boat-Bearer will be the one to ring the kampana during the
Gloria.
2.1.3. The servers that will reside in the sacristy will not be allowed to
roam, sit at the stairs, use mobile phones and other inappropriate
actions, but will instead sit in the provided monoblocks in the sacristy.
2.1.4. The cruets and basin shall be held by the same main server,
while the book will be bought by the cross-bearer
2.2. The Main servers shall ring the kampana and the sanctus bell during the
consecration, while the two big bells will be utilized during the Great Amen.
2.3. All servers should observe proper gestures on the duration of the
Simbang Gabi mass.
2.3.1. Servers that have been observed with unpleasant behaviors
and inappropriate actions will be given penalties by the Officer-in-
Charge or the Members’ Welfare and Development Committee.
3. Policies During the Communion
3.1. After the Lord’s Prayer, three (3) of the assigned candelabras will bring
umbrella and will proceed to the Nieva side to assist the Eucharistic Ministers
going to the La Consolacion College Parking Lot.
3.1.1. The remaining candelabra, along with two (2) main servers will
wait in the sacristy to assist the Eucharistic Ministers going to the San
Roque Cathedral Parking Lot.
3.2. Servers must bring two (2) purificators with them, one (1) for the La
Consolacion College Parking Lot and one (1) for the San Roque Cathedral
Parking Lot.
3.2.1. The servers will be borrowing the purificator in any cases that
the Eucharist fell on the ground in order to wipe in of properly.\
4. Policies After the Simbang Gabi Mass
4.1. All sacred vessels and auxiliaries used during the Simbang Gabi Mass
should be cleaned and returned to their proper places (candelabras,
thurible, boat, etc.)
4.1.1. All wastes used during the mass should be disposed properly
and securely (ashes from the used charcoal and incense, foil, etc.)
4.1.2. The servers must follow the “Gamit mo, Linis mo”
implementation.
4.2. Doffing the of sacred vestments should be done at the Perpetual
Adoration Chapel.
4.3. The servers are required to bring their sacred vestments with them as
they leave the Cathedral Premises.
4.3.1. Leaving sacred vestments in the cathedral premises (PEAC or
COWL) is strictly not allowed.
4.3.2. The ministry will not be liable for any lost sacred vestments.
5. Policies for the Belfry (Kampanaryo)
5.1. The Bells of the Kampanaryo will only be rung during the Simbang Gabi
Masses of 4:00 am and 8:00 pm.
5.2. Only two (2) members shall be allowed to go in the Kampanaryo and
will not proceed to do so without the signal of the Officer-In-Charge.
5.3. Ringing the Bells of the Kampanaryo should be done in the following
situations; (15 minutes before the start of the Simbang Gabi, During the
Entrance Procession and Veneration of the Altar, and Gloria (Papuri).
