Factoring by grouping and general trinomials

Definition – when factoring trinomials by grouping we first split the middle term into
two terms we then rewrite the pairs of terms we then rewrite the pairs of terms and
take out the common factor to factor a trinomial in the from x2 +bx+c1 find two integers,
r and s where product it c and whose sum is b. Rewrite the trinomial as x2 +rx+5x+s and
then we use grouping and the distributive property to factor the polynomial

FORMULA DIFFRERENCE OF TWO SQUARES

X2 y2
- =(x+y) (x-y)

PERFECT SQUARE TRINOMIAL

X2
-2xy+y2=(x-y)(x+y)
X2
-2xy+y2=(x-y)(x-y)

SUM OF TWO CUBES

X3 y3
+ =(x+y)(x2-xy+y2)

DIFFERENCE OF TWO CUBES

X3 y3
- =(x-y)(x2+xy+y2)
Example
X2
-2x+xy-2y
x2
=( -2x)+(xy-2y)
=x(x-2)+y(x-2)
=(x-2)(x+y)
