Types of
Communication
Mode
FACE-TO-FACE
INTERACTION

This is the most common mode of communication.

It is an informal or casual conversation between
two or more people.
People engage in social conversations to establish
relationships or maintain them.
It is one way of gaining new acquaintances or
friends.
FACE-TO-FACE
INTERACTION

One advantage of face-to-face interaction is that

aside from directly hearing the message being
conveyed, you are able to note visual cues
through facial expressions, gestures, movements,
or even objects or realia from the person you are
communicating with.
FACE-TO-FACE
INTERACTION

Example: in face-to-face communication you can tell

if a person is mad or not by taking note of the visual
cues he is showing such as a grumpy facial expression
or strong gestures relating strong negative emotion.
FACE-TO-FACE
INTERACTION

“Be brave enough to start a conversation that matters.”

– Dau Voire
Always be confident in initiating interesting
conversation even with persons that are
strangers to you. This skill is always helpful
especially on times such as a social event.
FACE-TO-FACE
INTERACTION

To be successful in your conversation,

follow this simple steps:
FACE-TO-FACE
INTERACTION

1.Topic Initiation – start a conversation focusing on what you experience at

the moment such as the ambiance, weather, food, music, or clothes you
wear.
2. Topic Maintenance – you should be able to hold a conversation going, to
do this, avoid one word responses, so as to avoid offending the other party
3. Topic Change/shift – you may not want to dwell on a certain topic for too
long, so always be alert on when is the perfect time to change topic
4.Topic Closure – finally, you should know also when it is the perfect time to
finally close the conversation and how to do it the most polite way.
VIDEO

Web cameras are used so that two or more

people who cannot interact face-to-face can
communicate.
If there are no technical glitches encountered,
this could be a very effective mode of
communication especially for people separated
by distance.
Unlike face-to-face you can see and hear but
can’t touch the person you are talking to.
VIDEO

Example: you may engage in a conversation

via Video Call with your loved ones
especially during significant and meaningful
occasions but will not be able to hug or kiss
them.
VIDEO

For informal settings people could use

apps such as Viber, Whatsapp, Apple
FaceTime, and Facebook Messenger.
For formal settings, video conferencing
via Zoom or Google Meet may be used.
VIDEO

While this is a convenient

communication mode for people who
want to reach out despite the distance,
a disadvantage is the time zone
difference between countries.
AUDIO
Audio means transmitted sound.
Thus, in this mode of
communication, only the voice of the
speaker can be heard.
Ordinarily, the speaker’s voice can
be heard through the telephone,
cellular phone, or an answering
machine when the other party is not
able to answer the call.
.
AUDIO
An obvious downside of this
mode is not being able to see
the body language or cues of
the person you are talking to.
This is also difficult if you are
listening to people with
different accents.
AUDIO Example: Some Filipinos are not
able to distinguish the sound of /I/
and /i/ in English words like sin and
seen, these words may sound the
same and may be misinterpreted by
the other party. Some also
interchange /v/ with /b/ and /f/
with /p/.
TEXT-BASED
COMMUNICATION

These are written modes of

communication such as email,
facsimile, text messaging, and
instant messaging.
Social networking sites such as
Facebook, Twitter, and
Instagram likewise offer text-
based interaction.
TEXT-BASED
COMMUNICATION

While text-based
communication mode does
not provide video and audio
benefits, it has a wider
reach and can disseminate
information to a bigger
audience quickly.
