What is a File?

A file is a collection of data that is saved on the computer. It can be of any


activity that you do using the computer. You can create, label, save, or delete
it. Files can be stored on different storage devices or media such as hard drive,
compact disk (CD), or flash drive.

Parts of a File Name

A soft copy is an electronic copy of a file that is stored in a computer file


system. It can be viewed using the computer’s monitor and an application
program. A file name consists of two parts: name and type or extension. A
period (.) is used to separate the name from its type of file.
