CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

“A good relationship start with good communication”

Communication is the process of sending and receiving messages through verbal and

non-verbal means including speech, or oral communication ; writing and graphical

representations (such as infographics , maps , and charts); and signs, signal and behavior , more

simply communication is said to be the creation and exchange of meaning, Richard Noraguist

(2019)

According to Stevenson University (2017), in a daily basis there are several roles that

each individual filled, but it depends on the context of an interaction. Interaction needs a clear

and effective communication. In terms of creating and maintaining lasting and genuine

relationship there are several elements that are involved which includes communication. Two

of which elements are recognizing body language cues and using effective listening skills. In the

right way of using effective listening skills. In the right way of using these elements, they see the

improvement when it comes to the quality of social interactions, which includes the confidence

that increases in engaging with others in a social capacity. These benefits can be an important

tools in securing a job or in building a lasting relationship.

In relating to our study, communication is very essential when it comes to interaction.

Interaction needs a clear and effective communication. But on the other hand, we focuses on

giving social enhancement activities that will help students on how they enhance their
2

communication skills we also want to know the effectiveness of social enhancement activities

when it comes to communication skills

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The outcome of this study would be a valuable assistance not only to the

students, teachers, and parents but also to the other researcher. The output of this

study would be benefited by the following individuals:

Students. They will be benefited with this study because it will this study because it will

help them to enhance their communication skills.

Teachers. The outcome of this study for the teachers, they will know how social

activities will help their students in terms of communicating.

Parents. It can help them to guide their child on how to socialize with other people.

4

Statement of the Problem

The study evaluated the Importance of Socio-Affective communication skills among

Grade 7 students in DNHS; Input to Social Enhancement Activities. The findings were used as

basis in formulating ways or strategies to give value or importance of communicating to others.

Specifically, it ought to answer the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of the following?

1.1 Age;

1.2 Gender; and

1.3Section;

2. What is the importance of socio-affective communication skills of Grade 7 student in the

following?

2.1 Attitude;

2.2 Knowledge; and

2.3 Environment;

3. What is the significance of socio-affective communication skills among grade 7 students?

5

Operational Definition of Variables

For more precise interpretation and better understanding of the study, the following

terms were defined in the context of this study.

Communication- (from Latin communicare, meaning "to share")[1] is the act of

conveying meanings from one entity or group to another through the use of mutually

understood signs, symbols, and semiotic rules.

Socio-relating to society; society and "socioeconomic"

Effective- is the capability of producing a desired result or the ability to produce desired

output. When something is deemed effective, it means it has an intended or expected

outcome, or produces a deep, vivid impression.

Skills-A skill is the ability to carry out a task with determined results often within a given

amount of time, energy, or both. Skills can often be divided into domain-general and domain-

specific skills. For example, in the domain of work, some general skills would include time

management, teamwork and leadership, self-motivation and others, whereas domain-specific

skills would be used only for a certain job. Skill usually requires certain environmental stimuli

and situations to assess the level of skill being shown and used.

Social- refers to the interaction of people and other organisms with each other, and to

their collective co-existence.

Enhancement- an increase or improvement in quality, value, or extent

6

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study aimed to determine the Importance of socio-affective communication skills in

DNHS: Input to social enhancement activity.

There are 618 grade 7 students in Dalig National High School wherein we only get 10%

of the total population that come up to the 62 respondents. They are purposively selected as a

respondents to gather data because they have a skills to communicate and participate to

answer the given survey checklist.

Chapter 2

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

7

This chapter contains literature and studies that are related to the present research

study. This section of research is categorized according to importance of socio-affective

communication skills.

On Attitude

According to Mcleod,Saul(2018),Attitude is a "relatively enduring otganization of the

feelings ,beliefs, and behavioral tendncies towards object. Group of people events or to

symbols. And expressing by evaluating of some degree of flavor or the disfavor ,stronger the

attitude the more likely it should affect to the behavior in terms to socializing to every person.

According to the study of ACS Distance Education( 2015),Influence upon the individuals

response to anyone and its situation with which it is related. Attitude have a cognitive

component an affective component ,and the behavioral component attitude is just a feeling or

a thoughts towards other attitude can have a possitive and negative nuetral to other and

enduring some emotions.

According to Howe and Krosnick (2017), Attitude is a strengths has been focus of a huge

volume of a research of psychology and related sciences for more decades, attitude has been

central to social psychologist theory development since birth. Attitude are not tangible or easily

recognized by others we can observe the effect of an attitude but not the attitude itself.

According to the study of Stem (2015),The “term school attitude representing a positive or

negative feelings associated in school describe students subjective well-being in school.

8

Students referred to their interest in learning inside and outside of school they obtained their

educational through experiences.

According to Kendra cherry, and steven Gand MD,(2018), on psychologist an attitude

refers to a set of a emotions, beliefs, and behaviors towards a particular object , person or

things ,attitude often results to experience that they can have. Attitude can lead to a tendencies

to evaluate such thngs, some evaluate are often to positive and negative .but they can also be

uncertain sometimes or have a mixed feelings to a particular person or a issue

According to the study of Makropoulos (2009), as cited by Ambong (2017), reavels that

the attitude of engaged and disengaged students were informed by the everyday realities of

their respective linguistic and academic situations. They suggest the closer the match to

personality to the job the great satisfaction.

According to Ice Ajen (2013), Spurred largely by interest in the relation between attitude

and behavior a period of relative neglected has move back focus to research on social

psychologist accepting the preposition that have a affect on attitudes towards an behavioral

relation.it is an attitudes that individual disposition to respond to someone.

On Environment

According to the study of National Center on safe supportive learning environment

(2017),A school environment is Broadly characterized by its facilities classrooms, school base,

some positive school environment is define as a school having a appropriate facilities or well

manage classroom. According to the study up school planning and management 2017, healthy

classroom and they will student and teachers to be their best, physically, mentally and
9

emotionally. Creating a healthy classroom involved addressing issues in a holistic we ask part of

an our echo system.

According to Ulrike Stadler Altman(2017), is there an influence of school or classroom

buildings and space on education. They use of the school classroom that is there relationship

between the classroom and it's arrangement with conducting of a lessons within the classroom.

According to the study of learning liftoff (2016), it makes sense that student who do

better when they learn in positive environment. People was agree that some environment are

more conducive to learning and had a make performance. Some research paper shows the

possible learning environment can lower teacher turn over by 25%, school that provide better

environment in other words could potentially reach higher levels of success.

According to Zipping Sam(2014), student achievement is often purely look at from the

perspective of the strength of the curriculum and the quality of the teachers. But today after

study demonstrate that facilities themselves have a big impact on the student behavior, grade,

teacher venture and even to the community.

According to the study of world Health Organization 2015, environment challenges and

opportunities vary considered among schools around the world across countries and within

communities. Some other resources available to schools to manage health hazards vary as

widely as the threat themselves. Social Social Development is such a key issue with those young

children that a number of matters to address social skills have been advocate.(Lynch Sharon A.,

Simpson Cynthia G. 2010), children learning this skills to adult, children, also do their

environment. The social skills that I learn when they young from the basis of relationship that

they develop in their childhood and also the their adulthood .

10

According to Daraee Fakhr Salehi (2018), social skills are considered as a one of the

important factors to their success or to their failure to every individual to this Society. Social

skills are a behavior, that's promote the positive and negative interaction towards to another

individual or those environment.

behavior that the health and individual understanding adopt a cross a variety up social setting.

Social skills sing the little can also define in the context a social and emotional learning it can

create opportunities to practice effective social skills both individual or by group.

According to Kelly Warfield (2016), successful learning environment also required that

learning objective be relevant to your student and lives outside of the classroom without ability

to explore how information the daily life, you're student are likely to engage in there lessons

commit that information to your memory.

On Knowledge

According to Omotayo (2013),the emergency acknowledge bass economic play an

important on effective management of knowledge, knowledge has been describe as a effective

critical ingredient for any organization seeking for ensure sustainable strategy competitive

advantages

According to Lee (2013), implementing activity that provide opportunity or International

students mingle with some domestic student do develop relationship will not only contribute

there adjustment process to order person.

11

As indicated by Blazar David (2014), research has been confirmed that the teachers have a

substantial impact on there student academic to a lifelong success, despites considered efforts

to identify characteristics such a experience to education and certification with effectiveness.

Ferguson ,Barzilai, Zvi et .all (2017),stated that learning and assessment for an interactive

world, to guide teachers and policy makers to be have a productive innovation, innovation that

are currently in currency but have not yet profound influence on the education.

According to Kelly Warfield (2016), successful learning environment also required that

learning objective be relevant to your student and lives outside of the classroom without ability

to explore how information the daily life, you're student are likely to engage in there lessons

commit that information to your memory.

According to Susan tuth, (2016), encourage student to research investigate how and

why things happier, and make their own decision about complex environmental issues. By

developing and and Hans thinking skills, help and you generation not that student must learn to

investigate or meet make their own decisions about environment.

Synthesis

We all known that attitude, knowledge and environment is needed to every student to

do better or Excel in what they do or to do have a strength and successful learning everyday,

they need to innovate their skills, they need to develop there social interaction to everyone

towards to another new environment if he or she in a new place. Every student need to
12

explore there ability, strength, behavior towards another persons. To a knowlageable in some

circumstances.

On Participatory

Accordin to Zafer Kus (2014), participation status of primary school ,students at

school in family and in society . the important factors that affect the participation of a students

in a school when the place where are they study.

According to G. M. Mahuro and N. Hungi(2016),Educational research has linked parental

participation in children's schooling with a range of children academic outcomes ,if some

student are to reap have a maximum benefits in their schooling ,they need to enjoy every

parental support.

As stated by Bogenschneider, Karen and Johnson Carol (2015),policy makers interested

in promoting school success must look beyond in the school door, the reform have focused on a

course curriculum. Instructional methods and teachers training to improve student

achievement.

On Applicability

According to Glowa, Liz and Gooddell Jim (2016),Student centered learning

models personalized learning with the use of competency-based approach by blending an

online learning modalities and to environments. Students share their responsibility for their

own learning with their time and as well as student have a extended learning options and the

resources.
13

According to Jessica K. Beaver Ph. D. , Brittan Hallar Ph. D. and Lucas Westmaas

(2014), Policy makers and practitioners alike have turned to blended their learning as a way to

promote the innovation. To reduce the educational cost to experience the student to rise the

student achievement every grading.

On Capability

According to Stewart, Frances (2013), social interactions are a quintessential Parr

of human life, and their quantity and quality to determine a persons social or relations

capabilities, involving to relations with other. The objective of development is to expand the set

of a capability of every individual.

According to Fernandez and Sabherwal (2010)cited by Dr. Ra'ed ,Dr. Ali Tarhini, Dr.

Based yousef (2015), define knowledge management as doing what is needed to get the most

out of knowledge resources and they added to the most statement is the KM or knowledge

management is viewed as a discipline that promotes the creation and sharing.

According to Alireza Javanmard and Kavoos Mohannak (2015),Organizational capability

develop has been emerged as a dominant theoretical framework for explaining their firms

generation of an maintaining of competitive advantages.

According to Moment, Nielsen, and Katash (2015),Characteristics of firms especially

service firms are define by rapid change, globalization hyper innovate competition etc. It's

recognition of the aspects of innovations capability and proposes a conceptual model based.

Chapter 3

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research methodology, population and sample of the study,

instrument of the study, data gathering procedure, data processing and statistical treatment.

METHOD AND TECHNIQUE USED

This was using descriptive method since the main objective of the researchers was

propound activities based on the Communication skill of grade 7 students.

Based on QuestionPro, is defined as a research method that describes the

characteristics of the population or phenomenon that is being studied. This methodology

focuses more on the “what” of the research subject rather than the “why” of the research

subject.

POPULATION AND SAMPLE OF THE STUDY

19

Table 1 shows the distribution of the respondents by section.

The researchers apply purposive sampling is a sampling techniques which the

researchers used in the selection of the respondents. The respondent came from Grade 7

students in DNHS In Antipolo City.

The researchers got the ten percent of the total population of the students of ten

sections.

In line with the selection of student respondents using simple random sampling

procedure, students selected per section was based on the ten percent population computed.

There were six hundred eighteen students in Grade 7, this totality was multiplied to ten percent

of population, so there were sixty two samples in Grade 7.

INSTRUMENT OF THE STUDY

Researchers-made questionnaire was use and make this study possible for the

researchers to gather data and information’s that is needed to address specific problems of the

study.

QUESTIONNAIRE

The questionnaire contained factors relating to the communication skills. The factors

were based on the researchers’ decision. The researchers came up with those factors because

they were the most related and connected elements to the utilization of natural seasoning.

Factor 1 which is Attitude consisted of statements related to the attitude or own

concerns of the respondents to know the importance.

Factor 2 is Knowledge. It contained statements of having a good and enough knowledge

to perform communication to others.

21

Factor 3 is Environment. It includes statements if environments or surrounding can

really affect them in terms of communicating to others.

Construction. The questionnaire was based on the researchers’ own creation.

The factors included were based on the researcher’s instinct.

Validation. In order to validate the questionnaire, the researchers asked their adviser,

Ms. Leslie H. Maglalang and Mrs.Cristine G. Bajo to check and analyze the questionnaire. The

researchers specifically asked Mr. Ruben P. Domaoan, an Teacher II to do a face validation of

the questionnaire. After the validation, the researchers’ questionnaire was based on the

suggestions of the validators.

Administration. The researchers asked permission from the current subject teacher of

two sections. The researchers’ Research teacher gave a permission letter for the administration

of the questionnaire. The questionnaire was given to Grade 7 students who were enrolled for

the S.Y. 2018-2019. The researchers personally administered the questionnaire to secure the

reliability and validity of the questionnaire.

The researchers visited the current subject teachers of ten sections to ask for their

permission for the campaign and administration of the questionnaire.

Data Gathering Procedure

22

A questionnaire was administered to determine student respondents’ importance in the

socio-affective communication skills. The sixty two students took the said questionnaire.

The researchers’ Research teacher gave a permission letter for the campaign and

administration of the questionnaire. The questionnaire was given to Grade 7 students who

were enrolled for the S.Y. 2018-2019. The researchers personally administered the

questionnaire to secure the reliability and validity of the questionnaire.

The researchers visited the current subject teachers of two sections to ask for their

permission for the administration of the questionnaire.

In terms of questionnaire answered by the student respondents, it was retrieved right

after they finished answering it. With regards to the administration, it took the student

respondents almost 10 minutes to answer the said questionnaire, the mere fact that it’s only a

checklist.

Data Processing and Statistical Treatment

The data gathered from the questionnaire checklist answered by the student

respondents was treated statistically using statistical formula.

Frequency Count, Weighted Mean and Verbal Interpretation. These descriptive

measures were employed in computing the respondents’ answers under the questionnaire

checklist.
