ready for the challenge
ahead.

In this Strategic Instructional

Material (SIM), we will be focusing on
mastering the skill of multiplying
numbers up to 3-digit numbers by up
to 2-digit numbers with regrouping.

But before we dive into that, we will

start with some preliminary activities

Hi! I’m Plicand, I am
excited to walk you
through the journey
towards mastering
multiplication.
Are you ready?

9
As we progress
through this journey of
multiplying numbers, we'll be
learning how to multiply 3-
digit numbers by up to 2-
digit numbers with
regrouping. But don't worry,
we'll be taking it one step
at a time.

GUIDE CARD:
Mathgabay

Before starting the

activities, it is important to
understand what regrouping means.
When multiplying two large
numbers, there is a possibility that
the answer might exceed 9 in a
particular column. When this
happens, we cannot simply write the
answer in that column. We must
'regroup' or carry over the excess
value to the next column.

10
Let's look and study
the multiplication problem
below. We will solve it 1. Write the
step-by-step using the numbers
Multi-Rule Map vertically, with the
(MRM). 3-digit number on
top and the 2-digit
number below it.

2. Begin with the

ones place of the 2-digit
number and multiply it by
each digit in the 3-digit
number. Write the products
below each digit and
remember to carry any
regrouping to
the next column.

3. Move on to the tens

place of the 2-digit
number and repeat the
process. Remember to add a
zero to the ones place when
multiplying by the
tens place.
Keep this in mind as you
work through the journey.
Good luck!

4. Add up the two

products to get the
final answer.

Therefore, 345 multiplied by 27 equals 9315.

11
Our first journey is at the
classroom. Solve the
multiplication problem to
reveal the answer to the
riddle.

I am an instrument for writing,

But I am not a pencil or a typewriter.
I come in many colors and styles,
And I am often used in school.
What am I?
