1.2 A storm I of 5-hour duration with intensity 2cm/hr resulted in a runoff of 4 cm and
storm II of 8-hour duration resulted in a runoff of 8.4cm. what is the ø index for both storms?

QUESTION 2 10
The storm with 150mm precipitation produces a direct runoff of 8.7cm with incremental hourly
rainfall values being 0.6, 1.35, 2.25, 3.45, 2.7, 2.4, 1.5 and 0.75cm/hr. Estimate the ø index of
the storm.

QUESTION 3 10
The ordinates of a 2hour unit hydrograph for a catchment are shown in table 2

2
A 6-hour storm occurs over the catchment such that the effective rainfall intensity is 1cm/hr
for the first 2hrs, 0 for the next two hours and 0.5cm/hr for the last two hours. Find the peak
flow of semantic flood.

QUESTION 4 20

The ordinates of discharge for a typical storm of a catchment in Umlazi having an area of
385km2 are given in table 3. Find ordinates of direct surface runoff hydrograph using straight
line technique for base flow separation.
