Combining digital technology with hands-on exploration and education

can be a powerful way to engage students and raise awareness about

.the environment

preserving biodiveristy at pisj-es

An Initiative by Science Club 23-24

:Proposal
The Science Club has conceived a plan to preserve the
biodiversity at our school, PISJES. Our approach involves using
digital cameras to capture images of the various plant life
(including flowers, trees, grass, and stems) and insects found
.throughout the school grounds
Once we have gathered this data, our Science Club members will
enrich each image by adding details such as the species'
classification, common name, scientific name, and intriguing facts
.about them
Subsequently, we aim to create an immersive 3D experience
showcasing the green spaces on our school campus, with a
particular focus on our botanical garden. This immersive
experience will allow students to explore and interact with the
natural world in an exciting way. When they click on specific
elements within the 3D environment, they will discover detailed,
.enlarged images of the species they're interested in
Additionally, we plan to compile all the data into a compact A5-
sized booklet or newsletter. This publication will serve as a
comprehensive guide, easily shareable among our peers.
Furthermore, we will create an HTML link within the school's
website, accessible under the Science Club tab, directing students
.to this captivating project
By taking these steps, we hope to not only preserve biodiversity
but also ignite a passion for nature among our fellow students and
.contribute to a greater understanding of the natural world
Systematic Workflow to be followed for the
:Execution of the project

:Project Planning
Create a timeline and allocate all science club members with
.responsibilities
Determine budget needed for software and printing of
.newsletter/booklet
:Data Collection
.Equip members good at photography with digital cameras
Set standardized set of instructions that will be followed while
.capturing the pictures
Develop a standardized data collection form to gather information
on class, common name, scientific name, and fun facts for each
.species
:Data Annotation
.Annotate and catalogue the data
Organisation of data will be implemented by using Excel
.spreadsheets
:3D- Immersive View
Collaborate with students who have 3D modelling and web
development skills such as CS students to create an immersive
.3D view of the green areas, especially the botanical garden
Integrate the annotated data into the 3D model, allowing
.users to click on specific elements for more information
Website
:Integration
If your school has a website, work with the
school's IT department to create a dedicated
.Science Club tab
Embed the 3D immersive view and provide links to
download the booklet/newsletter and explore the
.project's data
:Promotion and Education
Organize awareness campaigns to promote the
project and educate students and staff about
.biodiversity
Consider hosting workshops, seminars, or guided tours
of the botanical garden to engage the school
.community
:Evaluation
Assess the impact of your project on students'
.awareness of biodiversity preservation
Gather feedback from students, teachers, and other
.stakeholders for future improvements
:Sustainability
Plan for the long-term sustainability of the project, such as
.updating the 3D model and regularly adding new data
