Anna’s Blog
This month, I’m writing about young artists, and I found this incredible artist. I love her work!
Olivia is from Cape Town, South Africa. She finished school at Fish Hoek High in 2020. Her
mother, Kim Black, is also an artist.
When she was at school, Olivia liked drawing, not painting. Then her cousin asked her to do
some paintings, and she realized that she loved the bright colours. Now all her paintings are very
colourful.
She often paints portraits and they are often in bright colours. She really loves pink! Sometimes
the pictures are all in one colour, like pink or green or blue. She painted portraits of famous
people, like Nelson Mandela and Albert Einstein, in lots of bright colours – yellow, blue, red,
green and orange!
Olivia loves painting pictures of her friends. In 2020, she asked her friends to send her a selfie,
and she used the selfie to paint their portraits. Her portrait of her friend, Chloe, is called ‘Red-
headed Goddess’, and her portrait of another friend is called ‘Candy Land’.
My favourite Olivia Black painting is ‘Personal Metamorphosis’. She painted this when she was
still at school, and it won an art competition.
Olivia knows that her art will change as she gets older, but she is sure that she will always love
bright colours. She loves looking at her old paintings. She says that her paintings are like time
capsules for her because she can go back to the past when she remembers painting them.
