INTRODUCTION
QUEEN CLEOPATRA'S RISE TO POWER

Cleopatra was born in Egypt around the year 69 BC. She was
known as 'The Nile Viper' and was famous for being a very
beautiful woman, with great knowledge of politics. She was
fluent in seven languages and was the only member of royalty
who spoke the language of her servants: Egyptian.

She was the daughter of King Ptolemy of Egypt,

and when he died, she and her brother, also called
Ptolemy, ascended the throne of Egypt. When
Ptolemy turned fifteen, she seized power and
exiled her sister.

Cleopatra then attempted to raise an army to

overthrow her brother and regain the throne of
Egypt, but was unable to raise troops until she
reached Alexandria and met with Julius Caesar. He
supported her cause and gave her armies, killing
her brother in battle and giving her the throne of
Egypt.
