Preparing for the End: A Narrative Study of Vafþrúðnismál

Andrew McGillivray
The present work investigates the eddic poem Vafþrúðnismál through a theoretical lens
constructed by the author that is based on the work of Paul Ricoeur, Aron Gurevich, and Mircea
Eliade. By bringing together these three writers the intention is to allow for a close examination of
the poem on narrative grounds that also allows for the possibility for general conclusions to be
:
drawn about the cultural environment in which the poem was composed, namely medieval
Iceland. The theoretical framework is the stage on which the interpretation of the poem occurs,
which is done so in the tradition of a New Critical close reading that explores a wide range of…

"Analele Universităţii din București - Limba și Literatura Română", ISSN 1220-0271, Anul LXVIII, pp.
99-116, 2019. The present article, which uses the hermeneutical strategies promoted by Pierre
Brunel’s mythocritique, aims to investigate the Germanic eschatological myth of the “Fate of the
Gods” in the poetry of Charles Leconte de Lisle and Lucian Blaga. After a historical-religious
introduction on the “Fate of the Gods”, the article outlines its peculiar symbolic constellation.
Subsequently, the article turns the archetypical approach into the mythocritical application to
poetic texts. The poem "La Légende des Nornes" ("The Legend of Norns", 1862) by Leconte de…

The Asatru Edda Sacred Lore Of The North

daniela vieira GUARI
From the ashes arises the sacred lore of the North, the ancient stories and proverbial wisdom of
the Ásatrú religion. Mighty Gods and fi erce Giants battle in the never-ending struggle between
order and chaos, while men seek honor and glory in the eyes of their beloved deities. After many
years of research and piecing together sources, now comes the fi rst known holy text ever
presented for the Ásatrú faith. Giving these ancestral accounts in their true, epic form, Th e Ásatrú
Edda is designed as a religious work by and for the men and women of this path. In reconstructing
this sacred epic, the idea is to create a living storytelling tradition that will honor the legacy of th…
