1 Identification and Analysis of Equipment

3.1 Excavator
The chosen equipment for the equipment analysis task is the excavator. Excavators are
heavy machines used in the construction sector that has a boom, arm, bucket and cabin or
house placed on a rotating superstructure with a track or wheeled undercarriage (Volvo,
2022). These machines are mostly used for shifting material and excavation and digging.

Larger excavators are used for heavy excavation and material handling, demolition. Also
after attaching some extensions it can perform different works like cutting, breakers,
grappling, couplers.

The machine chosen for equipment analysis from the types of equipment used on the
Suntech Avenue 4 site is an excavator machine of JCB having model NXT 225LC M.
(Sanjeevan, 2022). The machine is powered by a 148hp diesel engine.

3.1.1 Purpose and Usage

Excavators usually consist of two parts that are boom and house with wheel based. All the
handling and operation are done by the operator while sitting in the control cabin situated
on the wheelbase. Modern excavators work on hydraulics to move the boom and bucket.
The following are the uses of excavators: (build, 2022)
 Dig trenches, foundations, pools.
 Handle and shift material like stones, gravel, soil.
 Levelling of ground.
 Used as a mini excavator.
 Demolition.
 Forestry work.
Why this equipment is chosen for Sunteck
Avenue 4 project: (build, 2022)
 For effective grappling, levelling and
excavation (Sanjeevan, 2022).
 Compact machine than others.
 It is easy to operate & move.
 Can work in any type of soil. Figure 1: Crawler Excavator (JCB, 2022)
 Without wastage safe handling of material.
 Use of labour gets reduced to unloading and loading.
Benefits of using this equipment
 Increase productivity
 Lower cost of operation.
 Least cost for manual operations
 Reduced time for completion of work.
 Low cost of operation than other equipment.

Rental Rs. 700/Hr Rs 685/Hr Rs 1385/Hr

In Mumbai city, the cost of renting an excavator is around 2.5 lakhs per month or 1400/Hr with a
minimum rent of 5000/day excluding the cost of transport (Sanjeevan, 2022). As Suntech Reality
is a very big firm they have their machinery setup as they have to work across various projects.
(Sanjeevan, 2022) So they use mainly owned excavators but in case it is busy on some other site
then they rent it from outside.
Comparing the rental and owning cost it is recommended to use owned excavator for daily
purposes. But they have to figure out have to use it continuously.
