silkkinauhansa hiuksiinsa. Siinä oli nyt tuo punanen nauharuusu
hiuksissa ylhäällä kamman edessä sivukiharoiden välissä, jotka ohimoilla
riippuivat ja jotka kohta kun hän päätänsä liikahutti, lehahtivat leikitellen
edestakaisin. Niin ja itse Karin Marialla oli isoäidin helmineula
kaulaliinassa — se, joka muutoin vain suurimmissa juhlatilaisuuksissa
otettiin esille. — Ja Beatalla riippui rippikoulumuistonsa kaulassansa.
Äiti kyllä huomasi kaiken, vaan kun kerran oli ehtinyt näin tapahtua, oli

niiltä ajoilta kun tämä kapalossa nukkui.
Kello 10 nousi Lotti täti, vaikkapa korttileikki tai joku jutelma olisikin
jäänyt kesken — tunnusteli, josko nurkkakaappinsa sekä mahonkinen
ruokakaappi olivat oikein lukossa, antoi sille tyttäristä, jolla oli
"vuoroviikkonsa" huomispäivää koskevat määräyksensä, ja pani pois
neuleensa, sammuttaen talikynttilän, joka oli hänen luonaan pöydän
päässä.
