1. What is Biomathematics?
- It is the use of mathematical models to help understand phenomena in biology. It has been
used in areas such as cellular neurobiology, epidemic modeling and population genetics.

2. What is Biochemistry?
- Biochemistry explores chemical processes related to living organisms. It is a laboratory-
based science combining biology and chemistry.
Biochemists study the structure, composition, and chemical reactions of substances in living systems
and, in turn, their functions and ways to control them. Biochemistry emerged as a separate discipline
when scientists combined biology with organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry. They began to
study areas such as:
• How living things get energy from food
• The chemical basis of heredity
• What fundamental changes occur in disease
Biochemistry includes the sciences of molecular biology, immunochemistry, and neurochemistry, as
well as bio-inorganic, bio-organic, and biophysical chemistry.

3. What is Bioeconomics?
- Bioeconomics is the science determining the socioeconomic activity threshold for which a bi-
ological system can be effectively and efficiently utilised without destroying the conditions for its re-
generation and therefore its sustainability. In other words Bioeconomics advocates an integrated sys-
tem.

4. What is Biophysics?
- Biophysics is the field that applies the theories and methods of physics to understand how bio-
logical systems work. Biophysics has been critical to understanding the mechanics of how the mole-
cules of life are made, how different parts of a cell move and function, and how complex systems in
our bodies—the brain, circulation, immune system, and others— work. Biophysics is a vibrant scien-
tific field where scientists from many fields including math, chemistry, physics, engineering, phar-
macology, and materials sciences, use their skills to explore and develop new tools for understanding
how biology—all life—works.

5. What is Biogeography?
- Biogeography, the study of the geographic distribution of plants, animals, and other forms
of life. It is concerned not only with habitation patterns but also with the factors responsible for vari-
ations in distribution.
