CAN BIOPHYSICS BE RELATED TO VETERINARY MEDICINE?
Biophysics is the complete study of the composition of a living being from the functioning of
cells and/or molecules to its systematic functioning; biophysics is responsible for carrying out
a deep and specific investigation of biological systems, including the branch of physics and
applying it to research.
The exploration of biophysics also includes the study of natural phenomena such as energy,
electricity, light and magnetism etc.
● Through research and exploration of effects on living beings, different treatments are
developed such as prostheses and/or tools that improve quality of life.
● Carry out the compression of living beings, from the simplest organism to the most
complex.
Biophysics can be exercised in other fields in addition to biology and the study of living
beings, such as:
The study of biophysics is essential in the study of living beings since it allows us to have a
more basic and broad understanding of the physiological functioning of a living being, which
allows us to address the different affectations of living beings, in a more specific and broad
way. , and to be able to give them a more accurate solution.
If you are a person interested in attributing to this science, you can support yourself with
other biophysicists or biologists, of course, being very applied and dedicated to the subject.
There are physicists who focus on molecular biology, but now there are many more physicists
who are interested in cell physics. As a curious fact, the National Cancer Institute has
financed 12 physical science centers for oncology, where physicists and specialists come
together to find the physical principles of the appearance and behavior of cancer in patients.
Biophysicists' attribution to biologists is that most biological behaviors, for example, protein
folding, can be understood from physical principles, because biophysicists use similar
approaches to study protein binding, biological biomolecules and other complex processes.
As they have come to carry out a biological study on a single molecule, they have shown that
artificial neural networks have come to produce an associative memory that is an essential
function of the brain.
Biological problems have inspired new physics, for example, the theory of complex systems,
which says that they only produce when the components work together as a complete system,
for example, the weather, you need to know about temperature, humidity, pressure , latitude,
among others, since a change in one of them affects the others. This opens interest about
stochastic processes and driven open systems.
Many concepts, theories and tools of biophysics were given thanks to chemistry and physics,
the selectivity of molecular interactions can be seen thanks to the equilibrium constants
(physics) and reactions (chemistry). But in order to adapt these concepts to biology it is
necessary to see the complexity of biomolecules and their native environment.
On the other hand, it is important for life sciences students to study biophysics first before
going first to biology, since over time the union of biology and physics will be more
necessary for the advancement of science. concepts, their creation and new techniques for
experimentation, therefore you will have more opportunities in the field.
- The knowledge of the biological systems explained from physics allows the
understanding of all biological phenomena studied in any of its manifestations.
- It allows us to understand the benefits that technology offers when it is applied in an
appropriate way and the damages that it can cause in biological systems when it is not
properly oriented.
And on the other hand, Biostatistics is the application of Statistics to Health Sciences. The
statistic gathers a set of methods needed to collect, classify, represent, and summarize data,
and to make inferences (draw scientific consequences) from them. Veterinary Medicine is an
experimental science and as such needs the scientific method to reach all of its scientific
knowledge and in this Statistics plays an important role. blueprint paper; but not only at the
level of medical research, but also at the level of care and medicine preventive and social.
The topics that make up this learning component were selected for the following reasons:
1. Most of the phenomena and models that are presented in the different areas of medicine:
Physiology, Clinical Medicine, Epidemiology, among others, use "Biological Variability".
This part of the course has as a priority objective to provide the student with sufficient
statistical background to solve problems using quantitative information, classifying and
summarizing data to draw conclusions science from them.
