1595 - the word trigonometry was first used in a publication by
Bartholomaeus Pitiscus (1561-1613), a German clergyman and
mathematician.
Sine - comes from the Latin sinus, meaning "a bend or guld," or
"the bosom of a garment."
Tangent - comes from the Latin word tangens, meaning "to
touch."
Secant - comes from the Latin word secans, which means
"cutting."
