TOPIC 1: Snacks
Personally, I’m not a nutritionist myself, so I’m not sure if it has any bad effect on the digestive
system but I suppose that having snacks before a meal would make us full and may not fully enjoy
the meal.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Well, personally, I think it depends. I mean, snacks themselves are not necessarily detrimental to
our health if we eat them once in a while. Yet, if excessively consumed, these kinds of comfort food
may pose great threats to our well-being given that most of them are high in sugar and calories.
● Pose great threats: đem lại những mối nguy hại lớn
People often cannot resist the allure or temptation of bad habits, and I’m not an exception myself.
Honestly, I’ve been eating chips ever since I was a little boy, and until now, I still cannot get rid of
them. Knowing that they’re bad, I don’t eat it on a regular basis, just, you know, a couple of times
a week.
Well, I’m not quite paying attention to what kids love snacking on these days, but I suppose that
there hasn't been much change since my time. Back then, I used to have sweet treats like cupcakes
or cookies, and even potato chips. And I mean, who doesn’t love them, they’re super yummy, aren’t
they ?
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Well, as I’ve just mentioned, not quite regularly, just a few times a week. It depends on my feelings
and what I’m doing at the time. Say, having a family movie night or holding a sleepover party with
● Say: ví dụ như là
For me, when I was a kid, my mom didn’t allow me to have snacks, you know, like most moms
would do. But that’s no longer the case now, when I’m now an adult, and I can have my own
decision on what to eat, though my mom is not exactly content when seeing me snacking.
TOPIC 2: Names
Well, of course, there is, but naming traditions vary from country to country and culture to culture.
For example, Vietnamese people here are often named by their parents according to their will and
wishes, or people can get themselves named after someone that their parents adore.
Well, that’s not my own decision to make, I mean, I cannot have a child by myself, I must get
married, so I guess me and my spouse would sit down and come up with a name for our baby that
both stands for our will. In Vietnam, naming a child sometimes even depends on grandparents'
Well, everyone’s name has a special meaning, don’t they? But I’m not quite sure about mine, as I
asked my mom, she said she and my dad just gave me a name that they think best suits a boy and
it’s cool.
Actually, I don't know what to say about my name since I didn’t even know what it was about but
it cannot be changed and it would go with me to my grave. It can even get carved onto my
● gravestone: bia mộ
Well, if I were an international criminal, I guess I would. You know, in order to hide my true identity
and get away from interpol or something like that. But that could hardly be my case, at least I hope
so. Other than that, I suppose it’s really absurd to actually consider changing my name.
● get away from: trốn thoát khỏi… (vd: ai đó/ tội danh…)

I don’t know about others but in Vietnam, we people speak highly of spiritual belief, and it may
sometimes be a bit superstitious. When a person runs out of luck, some think that their name is to
blame for, like it’s too ugly and probably brings them bad fortune, I suppose. In my experience, I’ve
seen some people who actually change their name in search of better luck.
It’s kinda bizarre living in Vietnam without a nickname, so of course, I do have one myself. My
parents usually call me Co, a typical nickname for boys in our country. Though I really like this
name, the fact that my mom is always making jokes about how she would use this nickname for me
my entire life actually freaks me out. I mean, it sounds a bit childish, don’t you think?
● Bizarre: kỳ lạ

TOPIC 3: Weather
As you haven’t noticed yet, the weather in Vietnam varies from region to region. In the Southern,
Northern and Central parts, they are all different from each other. My hometown, Tuyen Quang, is
a mountainous city in Northern Vietnam, so it bears the same characteristics as other provinces in
the North, except from the fact that it’s quite milder in the summer, which is kinda comfortable to
me. However, when it comes to the winter, it can get super freezing.
● Milder: dễ chịu
I’m not sure, really, but I think I would prefer a bit of breeze. You know, like, living in Hanoi, a
Northern city well-known for its extremely burning weather in the summer, I would love to enjoy
Well, usually, although there’ve been times when I wished it would be a bit milder since I feel,
As I’ve just said, I’ve never been a fan of the extreme heat since experiencing extremely hot weather
through the years makes me sometimes even feel like I can’t take it anymore. In the summer, I sweat
all the time and can’t live without an AC, so how can I like it to be honest?
Well, I think it actually depends on what I’ve planned for the day. So if I have work to do, I suppose
I would have to finish it before going home to relax. Having said that, if there’s aircon at the gym,
I would say that when choosing to live in Hanoi, it’s not really about what my preferences are but
more about what I have to put up with, though I definitely prefer it when the rain is off. That’s for
sure.
● preference: sở thích

TOPIC 4: Birthdays
I don’t have a younger sister or brother so I’m not quite sure, but I guess they’re still similar to how
they were at my time. I think children would throw in a party at their place, or at school, and have
some fun with their friends. Well, I suppose that there may be a bit of a difference since they have
Well, as I remember, nothing special, just the ordinary birthday cake and a cozy meal with my loved
ones. Though, the old me would prefer to spend the whole night with the boys, painting the town
red. You may find it weird when I say this, but I think I’m too old for that.
Can’t say for sure, to be honest. I’m not too picky so everything is great. It can either be some clothes
or a book, I mean, at least they’re care enough to give me a present. Some might fancy extravagant
pieces like jewelry, and obviously I do too, but I don’t mind receiving cheap presents, all I care about
is the sentimental value inside those gifts, and that’s for sure priceless.
TOPIC 5: Transportation
Well, I mean, motorbikes are definitely the most ubiquitous vehicles in Vietnam. In my home city,
Hanoi, there’s no exception, motorbikes run around every corner of this beautiful city. Though I
suppose that would change in the next few decades when, perhaps, electric cars will probably take
the lead.
Each has its own perks, to be honest. Using public vehicles would undoubtedly mitigate the on-
going environmental problems, right? However, don’t you think it’s a bit inconvenient, especially
in a densely populated city like Hanoi, where traffic congestion has always been a huge problem.
It's gonna take me hours just sitting on a bus or train to go to school/office. So, I’m not going to be
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Yeah I would, I guess so. If the government allocates more funds into improving infrastructure,
commuting via buses or trains will be less time-consuming. There will be no reason to hate it then.
Well yeah? I can’t even imagine a place without traffic-related issues. In Hanoi, people have been
suffering through the years with high traffic volumes on the roads. Sometimes I even ask myself
when this problem will be solved as it seems to be getting worse and worse.
