Jessica Torres Arias:
My partner Jessica had a lot of free time in the pandemic, so she began to investigate what was
causing such a stir. Jessica became interested in COVID-19 and she delved into many terms to
understand all the information. Later, she was very curious about a disease that she gave to an aunt,
a Streptococcus was the cause, there she learned a little about bacteria. Then, it was not difficult for
her, since in many articles they talked about microbiologists, so she looked for a career at the
nearest university, because she wanted to increase her knowledge in the area and dedicate herself to
it.

He describes his career as the study of microorganisms. In their career, they study what they are,
their metabolic capacities, the ways in which they are used in industries, environmental and clinical.

The essential skills of a microbiologist range from knowing how to differentiate culture media and,
likewise, one must know how to sow different microorganisms, either massively or to obtain
isolated colonies, to knowing about metabolism, the use of metabolites in industries , the way they
behave in extreme environments or how to use them for bio-remediation.

For her, one of the most difficult things in her career is the amount of very specific information that,
as a student, she must learn. Most of her subjects are theoretical, so it's too much information to
process in too little time.

In the pandemic, he considers that the field of research and creation of vaccines was strengthened,
since the problem needed solutions in a hurry, the time in which the results are obtained was greatly
improved, since laboratory techniques improved to be more efficient.

Alerson Guaza Cortes:

1. Why did you choose your career?

Because Alerson felt that he needed to learn more about microorganism research since since school
he has always been interested in biology and it reinforced his taste since the pandemic became the
object of worldwide study so he felt that he could increase his knowledge with what it gave him.

What cost him the most at the beginning of his career was the large amount of information that
Alerson had to process in such a short time. He felt at times that he was not capable of
understanding so many things such as chemistry, calculus, physics, but with the passing of time and
studying little by little I achieve it

5. How have professional skills in your specialty changed during the global pandemic?
Since microbiologists play a great role, in this case of the pandemic, biosafety methods have
become more transcendental in all aspects, since possible risks of contagion must be prevented, and
