How Climate Change can Affect
Health
The environment can affect
humans in many different
ways, whether it is annual rises
of global temperature being
affected by Covid-19, heat
waves, famine and steadily
increasing natural disasters
that can all be fixed, are all
caused by the fluctuation of
global temperature.
Airborne viruses and disease severity around the world
compared to WHO guidelines.
Covid-19 and Climate Change
● In this article, the authors link the Covid-19 pandemic to the
increased rises of global temperatures.
● Natural disasters and food insecurity was widespread in the world
and were only increasing because while the whole world was on
lockdown using may single use items such as, masks, gloves and
even PPE suits, climate change was still persisting and only getting
worse as it went unnoticed.
● Increasing global temperatures mean that infectious disease and
viruses have a higher chance of living and spreading without going
dormant (Romanello et al. 2021).
● Mosquito borne diseases have already been fluctuating due to
increased temperature.

Climate and Human Sustainability
● This article highlights the dangers of climate change and how it
affects human sustainability.
● Heat waves are of high concern as they can be deadly and
cause extreme dehydration to vulnerable populations like
women, children and the elderly.
● The World Health Organization predicts the number of deaths to
go up drastically if no changes are made that lessen human
environmental impact.
● The authors offer up some solutions such as “Invest in climate
change and public health research, monitoring, and surveillance
to ensure a better understanding of the adaptation needs and
the potential health co-benefits of climate mitigation at the local
and national level” (Watts et al. 2015).

and
Indirect
effects
Fixable Environmental Disasters
● In this article, the authors state that 12.6 million deaths are linked
to fixable climate factors such as, flood, heat wave, fire and
drought being the main issues.
● These all happen because of greenhouse gases caused by human
activities.
● Steady temperature rises allow viruses and diseases to grow and
mutate to be even more deadly and infectious (Watts et al. 2017)
● Using more renewable and clean energy is a clear solution to
these problems.
● Pollution kills 18,000 people per day.

social factors.
How to Make a Difference
● We as humans can all make a difference by cutting down on carbon
and greenhouse emissions by using clean and renewable energy.
● Trash in our oceans in a huge problem that persists sea level rise and
kills millions of marine and semi-marine animals each year, single use
plastics and non recyclable materials being the main problem and we
should refuse single use plastics and reuse anything and everything
we can.
● Electric vehicles would be an ideal solution to this problem because
they would cut a large amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
● Being more environmentally conscious is always something we should
think about before accepting a piece of plastic.
What Happens if Nothing is Changed?
● Steadily rising temperature causing complete climate catastrophe.
● Increase in infectious disease and virus mutation causing more global
pandemics.
● Total marine and land ecosystem collapse.
● Increase in mental health problems.
● Increase in heat waves and pollution, therefor rising the death toll by
millions.
● Extinction of animals (including humans) and microorganisms that are
essential for life.
● Widespread food insecurity.
