DIFFERENT IDEOLOGIES OF GLOBALIZATION

1. GLOBALIZATION IS AN ECONOMIC PHENOMENON

- the driving idea behind globalization is free-market capitalism—the more you let market forces rule and the more you
open your economy to free trade and competition, the more efficient your economy will be. Globalization means the
spread of free-market capitalism to virtually every country in the world.

Free market- lesser government intervention [the economy will be more efficient if less ang government control]

KEY CONCEPTS:

Public consumption—let the public consume whatever goods and services they want to purchase

Free-market capitalism—opposite of socialism, wherein the state regulates the production and the distribution of goods
and services

Triumph of market over governments—the government will be more likely not to intervene with the affairs on the
market, so the role of the government is to remove trade barriers that will facilitate the free flow of goods, services and
capital.

2. GLOBALIZATION IS INEVITABLE AND IRREVERSIBLE

- hindi matatakasan at hindi makakabalik sa past to undo things

- Globalization is happening, it’s going to happen. It does not matter whether you like it or not, it’s happening, it’s going
to happen.

DETERMINISM -an inner meaning of human history determined by the unalterable will of a transcendental force.

-it will likely to happen. Like forcing societies to liberalize, to loosen their policy, to accommodate
workers or to allow citizens to work as overseas migrant workers.

3. GLOBALIZATION: NOBODY IS IN-CHARGE

- the great beauty of globalization is that no one is in control. It is not controlled by any individual, any government, or
any institutions.

4. GLOBALIZATION BENEFITS EVERYONE IN THE LONG RUN

- when linked to globalism’s peripheral concept, ‘progress’, the idea of ‘benefits for everyone’ taps not only into
liberalism’s progressive worldview, but also draws on the powerful socialist vision of establishing an economic paradise
on earth---

Progress—there is improvement in the life ways of society, there is a betterment of life

Liberalism—it embraces freedom, free view of the individual, freedom

Socialism—equality for all, but this will only happen if the production is state owned—state ang magtatakda ng
presyo ng commodities.. it is hast the same perspective with liberalism kasi both want to have a betterment of
life.

KEY CONCEPTS:

Globalization as a source of hope in the future—it promises progress

Unprecedented expansion of trade and commerce—because of globalization, commerce have expanded

Opening up of international trade that will improve the standard of living among developing countries—gives
opportunity to participate
Rapid dissemination of information and technological innovation

5. GLOBALIZATION FURTHERS THE SPREAD OF DEMOCRACY

- globalists tend to treat freedom, free-markets, free trade and democracy as synonymous terms.

Democracy- gives freedom, right to vote, right to choose

6. GLOBALIZATION REQUIRES A GLOBAL WAR ON TERROR

- it combines the idea of economic globalization with openly militaristic and nationalistic ideas associated with the
American-led global war on terror.

- Globalization combats terrorism

DIVISION OF SOCIETIES:

- Functioning Core
o network connectivity, financial transactions, media flows, collective security
o stable governments
o transparency, rising standard of living, more deaths by suicide than by murder
- Non-integrating Gap
o Globalization is thinning or plain absent
o Repressive political regimes, regulated market, mass murder, and widespread poverty and diseases
o Breeding ground of ‘global terrorists’
- Seam States
o Lie along the gap’s bloody boundaries
