The smallest indivisible particle of matter is
called an atom.
Dalton 1803
All elements are made of atoms. Each
element has unique atoms. Atoms cannot be
created or destroyed. Atoms combine to make
compounds.

Thomson 1897
A negatively charged, subatomic particle
exists inside of an atom, called an electron.
Rutherford 1909
An atom is comprised of 99% empty space.
The nucleus is a dense, positively charged
region.
Bohr 1913
Electrons orbit the nucleus in specific strict
orbitals that have separate energy levels.

Schrodinger and Heisenberg 1927 Electrons

orbit the nucleus in cloud-like areas rather
than strict orbitals.
