SUSPENSION SYSTEM - Component Identification

• Component identification and The 725C, 730C, and 730C EJ Articulated Trucks use the same suspension
brief overview of the truck arrangements for all models. The suspension components are nearly identical to
suspension system those found on previous models. The major components in the suspension
system, above, are listed below:

• Front Axle Suspension Link (1)

• Front Suspension Cylinders (2) (struts)

• Center Axle Suspension Link (3)

• Rear Axle Suspension Link (4)

• Rear Suspension Blocks (5)

Front Suspension

• Front suspension component The front suspension for the 725C, 730C, and 730C EJ Articulated Trucks is
identification and location comprised of the following major components.

• Brief description of the function • The Right Suspension Cylinder (1) (strut) and the Left Suspension
of each component Cylinder (2), which dampen the shock and cushion the frame from
sudden movements of the front axle due to uneven terrain.

• The Front Axle Suspension Link (3) provides lateral stability for the front
axle through a wide range of axle articulation as the two front wheels
travel over uneven terrain.

mounting brackets identification right side of the machine. The front axle bracket is bolted to the right side of the
and location axle.

• Brief description of the function The front suspension link is attached to the Frame Bracket (3) on the left side of the
of the front suspension link machine. The frame bracket is bolted to the left tractor frame rail.

The suspension link provides lateral stability, preventing side-to-side sway, as the
front wheels travel over terrain that is uneven from one side of the truck to the
other.

their attachment to the axle and of the cylinder is connected to the tractor frame at the Frame Bracket (3). Another
the frame suspension cylinder is installed on the right side of the front axle.

• Explanation of the lubrication The suspension cylinders are filled with oil and charged with nitrogen. The
points and the remote grease suspension cylinders provide shock absorption between the front wheels and the
zerks tractor frame, providing a smoother ride.

Lubrication hoses are attached to the Lube Points (4) where the strut is attached to
the axle and the frame. These hoses lead to remote grease points located at the
left rear of the tractor. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM) for
type of lubrication grease and the lubrication frequency.

If an optional automatic lubrication system is installed on the truck, these lube

points are automatically lubricated.

Adjustment of the Front Suspension Height

• Identification of the oil and The height of the front suspension may need occasional adjustments. The three
nitrogen ports on the front ports on each suspension cylinder are used to drain the cylinder of oil and nitrogen
suspension cylinders and to refill the cylinder.

• Brief explanation of the use of The front suspension is lowered by draining the oil and nitrogen from the Drain
the oil and nitrogen ports for Port (3). Oil is injected into the cylinder through the Oil Port (1). Nitrogen is used
adjusting the front suspension to charge the cylinder, adjusting the suspension height, by injecting nitrogen
height through the Nitrogen Port (2).

• Refer participants to the Systems The height of the front suspension is measured from the top of the rim to the
Operation and the Test and bottom of the fender (Dimension A) on both sides of the machine.
Adjust manuals for height
adjustment procedure Refer to the Systems Operation and Test and Adjust Manual for the detailed
instructions for suspension height, the type of oil and nitrogen required, and the
proper tooling and safety precautions needed for this procedure.

Rear Suspension

• Rear suspension component The rear suspension for the 725C, 730C, and 730C EJ Articulated Trucks is
identification and location comprised of the following major components:

• Brief description of the function • The Rear Suspension Arms (1) allow the center and rear axles to follow
of the rear suspension system the contours of the terrain without a rigid connection between the axles
components and the trailer frame.

• The Suspension Blocks (2) help dampen the shock and cushion the
trailer frame from sudden movements of the rear axles as the truck
travels over uneven terrain.

• The Suspension Links (4) provide lateral stability for the Center
Axle (3) and the Rear Axle (5) through a wide range of axle articulation
as the four rear wheels travel over uneven terrain.

to the right side of the axles.

The suspension links are attached to the Frame Brackets (4) on the left side of the
machine. The frame brackets are welded to the left trailer frame rail.

10_1

• Explanation of the function of The Rear Suspension Arms (1) have been redesigned. The Pivot Point (5) of the
the rear suspension arms and suspension arms is now aligned vertically with the center of the frame instead of
suspension blocks below the frame. This position allows the Center Axle (3) and the Rear Axle (4) to
more smoothly follow the contours of the terrain without overly aggressive vertical
movement of the axles, providing a smoother ride.

As the axles move up and down with the contours of the terrain, the Rear
Suspension Blocks (2) dampen any sudden movements. The rear suspension
arms allow the axles to float independently up and down, further enhancing the ride
and reducing shock from being transmitted from the wheels to the frame.
