PEG FEEDING REFLECTION

In this procedure, I have learned how to perform PEG feeding to a patient. The first
thing that I did is prepare the material and equipment that I am going to use and make sure you
should check the amount, concentration, and expiration date of the formula feeding that you are
going to administer to the patient. Before I start, I explained to the patient that the purpose of
this procedure to administer feeding and medication in the Peg Tube. I checked if there is any
irritations, sores or leakages around the stoma before I perform the procedure and I also check
for the proper placement of the peg tube. In this procedure i performed the three types of
feeding system. First, I administer feeding via open system make sure before you open the cap
you should kinked the tube first to avoid air embolism. Second, I perform using the large syringe
I also administer medication using this. Lastly, I used the IV pump to regulate the formula and
check the proper placement every 4-6 hours and after the procedure let the patient stay in semi
fowlers position for 1 hour to avoid aspiration and vomiting.
