Introduction
Our innovative project, Vertical Gardening using Recyclable Material, seeks
support from the esteemed Department of Agriculture (DA) in Davao. It aligns with the
DA's commitment to sustainable farming and rural development. This initiative is
significant for the students of Tunan National High School, offering hands-on education
in sustainable farming, recycling, and community engagement. The DA should support
this project as it advances sustainable agriculture, endorses eco-conscious practices,
boosts local agriculture and enhances food security while enriching the educational
experience for Tunan National High School students.
Rationale or background
The project aims to address the gap in sustainable school gardening practices by
exploring innovative vertical gardening techniques using recyclable materials and
offering eco-friendly solutions for limited-space environments.
The problem to be solved is the limited space for traditional gardening and the
need for sustainable, eco-friendly gardening practices. Vertical gardening using
recyclable materials aims to address both these issues by providing a solution for
growing plants in small spaces while promoting environmental sustainability through the
use of recyclable materials.
Vertical gardening using recyclable materials is a significant project for several reasons:
2. Space Efficiency Vertical gardens maximize the use of limited space in urban
environments, making it possible to grow plants in small areas such as balconies and
walls.
3. Biodiversity These gardens can support a variety of plants, potentially increasing
urban biodiversity and providing habitats for insects and birds.
4. Aesthetic Improvement Vertical gardens enhance the visual appeal of urban areas
and can be used for artistic or decorative purposes.
5. Air Quality Plants in vertical gardens help purify the air, which is especially important
in densely populated urban areas.
6. Food Production Vertical gardens can be used to grow herbs, vegetables, and even
small fruit trees, contributing to local food production and self-sufficiency.
