Final Performance Rules & Guidelines Final Performance Rules • The contestant (s) should start with the following: (no longer than 2 minutes and these are not included in the time limit of each category) - introducing the piece - introduce themselves and the character they are playing, - the details of the play and scene selected (what happened before) - an answer to the question ‘I/We chose this piece because …’ - what they aim to show/achieve by the way they play the scene • Contestants may not wear costumes. Black clothes and shoes or bare feet will be good. Turning shirts/ T-shirts inside out to make them fully black is totally acceptable. Stripes or bright colors can be covered with black tape. • Contestants should speak and perform in their natural voice. (Rather than affect a British accent) • If the contestant has documented hearing, learning, physical and/or visual disabilities, Please advise S4A so that appropriate advice may be provided.
Final Performance Guidelines
• 1 prop and 1 chair per performance only for monologue and duologues. Props to be prepared by the contestant. (Able to carry by a person in size) and chair available at the venue. • 3 props and up to 3 chairs for ensemble pieces. Props to be prepared by contestants. (Able to be carried by a person in size) and chairs available at the venue. • The competition is about acting and not the use of external factors to support performance. • No scenery and backdrop • Each contestant must only perform their extract in full once. They may be allowed to restart the extract if they make a mistake (the contestant is allowed to restart twice, before being encouraged to take a break to steady any nerves and come back to try again later at the end of their category). • If necessary, prompting is allowed. If a contestant requires prompting, they must say “Line.” A prompter will be available to help during the competition. • Maximum 3 small Musical instruments (To be prepared by the contestant such as standalone, handheld drum… but no piano allowed) • No special lighting • No special effects (e.g. smoke machine…)
