RULEBOOK

A. GENERAL RULES
1. The Registration Fee is INR 2800 per person. This is a lump sum payment towards
registration fee for all events, accommodation for 3 days and 2 nights, and local
transport (i.e. pickup and drop from accommodation – venue).
2. The decision of the judges will be final and binding in all cases.
3. No smoking or use of contraband substances is allowed on campus.
4. On spot registration is permitted for events, unless otherwise provided.
5. All events are subject to a minimum registration. For logistical reasons, certain events
are subject to a pre-decided cap on total participation. Registrations beyond the total
cap will not be entertained. Likewise, the team cap per institution may be raised on the
spot if logistics permit so.
6. Every participant has to carry two passport size photographs for the purposes of Fest
ID Card and their Photo Identity Proof along with them. Entry to the campus and fest
will be denied without the Fest ID Card.
7. The participants should register for the various events keeping in mind the various
clashes (event schedule to be released). The organizers will not be under any obligation
to resolve any clashes at a later stage. In case of any such clashes, the decision of the
organizers shall be final.
8. In addition to the prize money for individual events, there shall also be a ‘Best
Contingent Prize’ of INR 20,000. It shall be awarded to the University/College whose
students win the most number of events. We would strongly urge all the Participating
Institutions to ensure that they participate in as many events as possible and in as many
teams as may be permitted in accordance with the rules of the Event, as prescribed
under.
9. No refund of the registration fee will be made if some contingent wishes to opt out of
the fest after registration.
10. The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any team(s) / participant(s) if found
guilty of any misconduct.
11. All rules are subject to changes at the discretion of the organizers.
B. EVENT-SPECIFIC RULES

I. FLAGSHIP EVENTS

DEBATE (THE SOCRATIC METHOD)


1. Debate format is: 3- on- 3 Asians Parliamentary.
2. The tournament is open to cross institutional teams.
3. Speakers must be enrolled in an undergraduate course in an academic institution at the
time of participation. This rule does not apply to adjudicators.
4. Each team shall comprise of 3 speakers and 1 adjudicator. Every team must be
accompanied by 1 additional adjudicator i.e. the n+1 rule will be followed.
5. The requirement for 1 additional adjudicator (in addition to 3 speakers and 1
adjudicator) shall not be applicable only where the team comprises of 3 speakers and 1
A level adjudicator. An A level adjudicator is one who has broken through the knockout
rounds of 2 senior level tournaments.
6. Each speaker shall speak for a maximum of 7 minutes.
7. There shall be 4 preliminary rounds followed by a break night, quarter-finals, semi-
finals and finals.
8. There is a total team cap of 24 teams so teams are encouraged to register before the
deadline.

QUIZ (BRAINSTORM)
The event would comprise of the three main quizzes (The General Quiz, BizTech Quiz,
MELAS Quiz), and informal quizzes.
1. Teams of up to three members are allowed.
2. There is no cap on the number of teams that can participate in the quiz from one
institution.
3. Cross-institutional teams are allowed.
4. The main quizzes would each comprise of a written preliminary round, followed by the
respective finals. The rules of the preliminaries and finals shall be decided by the
respective quizmasters.
5. The manner in which the quiz shall proceed is subject to the respective quizmasters and
the hosts.

SLAM POETRY
1. This is an individual event.
2. Poems may be in either English or Hindi.
3. Each poem must be of the poet’s own construction. Plagiarism would result in
disqualification.
4. Each poet gets 5 minutes (plus a grace period at the discretion of the judge) to read one
poem. If the poet goes over time, points will be deducted from the total score.
5. The poet may not use props, costumes or musical instruments.

DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION (CREW)


1. Teams shall consist of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 members. There is a cap of
two teams per institution.
2. There is no theme and participants are allowed to showcase any form of dance style.
3. Time Limit- Maximum 5-6 minutes

5. Participants should get their songs/music in a pen-drive and must provide it at least 2
hours before the event; the organizers will only provide with the medium to play songs.
6. Participants are free to use props; however, they must arrange for the requisites
themselves. Organizers to be intimated about props at the time of registration of event.
7. Any form of vulgarity will lead to immediate disqualification. Time limit must be strictly
adhered to.
8. On the spot registration is not allowed.
9. In case of malfunctioning of any equipment provided, the participant will be allowed to
repeat the performance from the start or from the point of disruption, with the consent
of the judges.

DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION (STAG)


1. There is no theme and participants are allowed to showcase any form of dance style.
2. Maximum of 2 entries per college.
3. Time Limit – Maximum 4 minutes
4. Judging criteria –

PITCH PLEASE (SINGING- SOLO)


1. Soloist may perform any song.
2. Each entry may consist of 1 singer with a maximum of 2 accompanists.
3. Basic sound equipment and a standard drum-kit will be provided. However,
participants are advised to carry their own instruments.
4. Performance time – 5 minutes.
5. No pre-recorded music will be allowed (including any music pre-recorded on a
synthesizer).
6. Accompanists with winning teams will be given certificates as well.

KHALBALI (BATTLE OF BANDS)


1. The competition is open for bands of any genre.
2. Band should consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 members with up to 2 stage
assistants.
3. Maximum of 2 entries per college.
4. Performance time – 8 minutes.
5. Set-up time – 3 minutes (This does not include the performance time).
6. No pre-recorded music is allowed (including any music pre-recorded on a synthesizer).
7. Covers are permitted, but we encourage original content.

SPOTLIGHT (THEATRE)
1. A maximum of 2 teams from one institution shall be allowed to participate in this event.
2. The maximum number of participants per team is 15.
3. One Act Plays are also allowed in this event category.
4. The minimum duration of the play must be 10 minutes and the maximum duration can
be 20 minutes.
5. Participants will be marked negatively for exceeding time.
6. The time limit for performances is from empty stage to empty stage. The maximum time
limit is inclusive of the curtain calls et al.
7. Any special props are to be arranged for by the performing team. Only general props
like table, chairs etc. will be provided.
8. The play may be in either English or Hindi or both.
9. Profanities should be avoided.
10. The teams will be judged on the basis of their acting, script, team coordination and
audience interaction.

ANDOLAN (NUKKAD NATAK)


1. Team may consist of a maximum of 10 members.

2. Maximum of 2 teams per institution.

3. Time Limit: 10 minutes. Performances exceeding time limit will be negatively marked.
4. Theme – To be announced in advance.

5. Performances have to be strictly in accordance with the theme given, although creative
interpretation of the theme is strongly encouraged.

6. Performances are required to be either in Hindi or English or a combination of both.
7. Props will not be provided by the organizers. Any special requirements are required to
be communicated to the organizers beforehand.

STAND UP COMEDY
1. Team Composition:
a. There is a team cap of three teams per institution.
b. Each Team composition can either be solo or Duo.
2. Judging Criteria: Content, Quality of humour, Stage presence, Audience engagement,
Clarity of thought, Wackiness, USP (Unique selling point).
3. Duration: Participant(s) will be provided maximum of 7 minutes and for minimum of 3
minutes for the act.
4. Eliminations: Eliminations are to be conducted on-ground during the fest, where the
participants have to put on a show in front of a live audience and then, on the basis of
the score top two teams will be shortlisted for the finals.
5. Finals: The participants who cleared the eliminations will be asked to prepare
impromptu (on the topic provided thereon) of maximum 5 minutes, to perform in front
of a live audience.
6. General Rules:
a. Mono-acting, puppetry, musicals are not allowed though ventriloquism is allowed.
b. Use of props is allowed, brought in by the participant himself.
c. The organisers hold the discretion of allowing it on stage.
d. Both English and Hindi are allowed. No other language is allowed.
e. Decisions taken by the judge is absolute and binding.
f. Use of obscenity/profanity (at the discretion of the judges) is not allowed and there
should be no direct implications.
g. Any Form of music is not allowed during the performance.
h. Since the participants are called upon in a random order, each is required to be
present at least 5 minutes prior to the start.

II. INFORMAL EVENTS

NISHABD (CHARADES)

1. All teams will comprise of two members. One person will enact while the other person
has to guess.
2. Genres are solely based on the discretion of the Organising Committee.
3. Prompting is not allowed.
4. Marks shall be deducted for speaking or mouthing words by the person enacting.
5. Words cannot be broken down into letters by the person enacting.
6. There will be a set amount of time allotted. If the team guesses correctly within the set
time, it gets the point.
7. The discretion of the hosts/judges shall be final.
8. Boo-ing/ helping another team is not allowed.
9. In case of a tie, bonus questions shall be put to the said teams.

CAN I HAVE A P, PLEASE? (BLOCKBUSTERS)

1. Teams of a maximum of three participants are allowed. There shall be a written


preliminary round out of which four teams will be selected.
2. The semi-finals consist of a game board that will consist of 25 interlocking hexagons,
arranged in five columns of five. Each hexagon contained a letter of the alphabet.
3. A team would choose one of the letters, and would be asked a general-knowledge trivia
question whose correct answer begins with the chosen letter.
4. A toss will decide which team goes first and the game starts with a letter chosen at
random by the host.
5. The teams or players can buzz-in during the middle of reading of a question. If a player
or team gets the correct answer, they gain control of that hexagon and are given the
chance to choose another one.
6. If the contestant answers incorrectly, the opposing team or player is given a chance to
answer it after the host re-reads the question. If nobody answers it correctly, the host
will ask another question whose answer begins with that same letter.
7. One team attempts to complete a vertical connection of white hexagons from the top of
the board to the bottom; while the other team attempts to connect a path from left to
right with blue hexagons. The teams can play strategically and also block the opponent
team.
8. The first side to connect their path wins the game.
9. Number of rounds shall depend upon the final participation.

TABOO
1. Each team shall consist of 3 members out of which one member shall be designated as
‘Clue Giver’.
2. The Clue Giver is handed over a set of cards which contains the guess word which has to
be correctly guessed by the other team members.
3. The Cards given to Clue Giver shall contain 5-6 'taboo’ words which cannot be used by
the Clue Giver to describe the guess word contained in the card.
4. Additionally the Clue Giver is not permitted to:
5. Use any other corresponding word in vernacular language or any other language to
describe the guess word
6. Use the past, present, future tense of the guess word
7. Use noise or sound effects to describe the guess word
8. Use abbreviations if the guess word is contained in its expansion
9. Use expressions like the guess word 'rhymes with’ or 'sounds like’ to describe the guess
word
10. Use any form or part of any word on the card as clue
11. Use gestures to prompt teammates to identify the guess word (speech maybe used for
prompting the teammates)
12. Scoring: for each word correctly guessed, the team earns two points. Each time a taboo
word is used or any of the rules mentioned above is contravened, the team loses one
point. For each card skipped by a clue giver, the team loses one point. The team which
earns the most number of points by the end of one minute wins the game.

SAMAJHNE WAALE KO ISHAARA KAAFI (TINY TALES)

1. Individual or teams of two are allowed.


2. It is an open entry event and there’s no limit on the number of participants per
university
3. Entries shall be in English or Hindi
4. The participants are expected to interpret the theme and genre (a picture could be used
too) given and use it suitably in a tale of 240 characters.
5. The participants have to provide a title to their submission
6. The participants can not refer to any external source
7. Plagiarism will lead to direct disqualification
8. The participants shall have 45 minutes to make their submission after the release of the
theme.

PICTIONARY

1. Players would be divided in teams of 2 or 3 (depending on the turnout).


2. Object: to beat your opponents, your team will have to correctly identify the right word
drawn on the board.
3. A team player would draw the word or phrase and their team would guess.
4. All the teams would be given 90 seconds each to guess as many words as they can.
5. Each team would be allowed 2 passes in a round.
6. The top teams (according to the number of teams registering) would qualify for the
next round.

JUST A MINUTE (JAM)

To play Just a Minute you must speak for a minute on a given subject. If you hesitate, repeat
yourself, or deviate, an opponent will interrupt and take the subject. Points are gained for
speaking when the minute is up, correctly interrupting, or being wrongly interrupted.

Rules:

1. The JAM master is god. No questions or arguments once the final decision has been
made
2. To object, slam the table and say “JAM”. The JAM master decides when you are allowed
to put forth your objection
3. You get a penalty if the competition objects on any of the following counts:
a. You object out of turn
b. You stutter, stammer, and generally indulge in “time-wasting tactics”. These include
efforts to buy time like interspersing your talk with “uhh”, “aah” etc...
c. Early start and late start
d. Speaking too fast or too slow
e. Grammatical errors
f. Undue stress on words, undue emphasis in the sentences
g. Repetition of a previously used idea
h. Not following the “random rules” as set by the JAM master. For example, the most
popular random rule was “Praise Guntas before objecting”. If you forget to do so or
the JAM master thinks that the praise was not good enough, you will not be allowed
to object and lose points for an incorrect/bad objection.

4. The total time is sixty seconds, inclusive of all the time that all the speakers in a given
round are allowed to speak
5. Points are given in the following manner:
a. Positive points for every second that you speak
b. Positive points for every correct objection
c. Negative points for every incorrect objection
d. Bonus points for being the last speaker
6. The winner is the person with the maximum number of points at the end of the round.

CHEF’S CORNER

1. Each team will comprise of 2 members.


2. Participants need to prepare one dish and give it beautiful presentation.
3. Maximum time 35 - 40 minutes.
4. Exceeding 35 minutes shall lead to deduction of marks.
5. Exceeding 40 minutes shall lead to disqualification.
6. Marking criteria: 70% on taste & 30% on presentation.
7. Marks will be deducted for wastage and after finishing the preparation all participants
are required to clean their respective kitchens.

MAD ADS

1. A team should have a minimum 5 to a maximum of 8 participants.


2. Any number of teams may participate from 1 institution.
3. Time Limit for Performance- 4 minutes
4. Props are allowed but will not be provided by the organisers.
5. The product/band will be allotted 10 minutes prior to the performance.
6. Judging Criteria: The performance will be judged on the basis of their originality &
creativity and the presentation.
7. Obscenity/vulgarity/abusive language is strictly discouraged and will attract negative
marking.

TREASURE HUNT

1. Objective: to find a treasure placed inside the campus using strategically placed clues.
2. Two members are allowed per team.
3. A maximum of two teams from each college can participate.
4. Each clues leads to the next clue and the clues are to be found in a certain order. The
team would earn point for finding clues in the certain sequence.
5. Tampering with another team's clue/treasure would result in immediate
disqualification.
6. Subject to number of teams, the clues of teams would be different and placed in
different locations.
7. The team to find the treasure and clues in the right sequence in the least amount of time
wins the game.
8. Tie breaker rules and total time to released later (probably on the spot).

GRAFFITI

1. Participation: Individual/ Teams of a maximum of 5 participants.


2. A measured white panel belonging to a wall in (place) will be allotted to each team.
3. Materials will be provided to them which can be used by the participants freely in any
manner the participants want.
4. Individuals/Teams will have to adhere to the time limit specified.
5. Participants are required to create only onto the panel provided to them.
6. The event tests the theme and the calibre of a participant to transfer ideas onto a larger
canvas.
7. The Graffiti must be the original work of the participant(s).

SHUTTER BUG (PHOTOGRAPHY)


1. The contests are open to all to and submissions will be through email with subject
“Photograph Submission| Round 1/2/3 | Photographer/ College Name”
2. The body of the mail will contain caption for the photograph, mobile number and the
Instagram handle of the photographer. The image should be in accordance to the theme
and the caption should explain the same. Participant may add in the caption a few lines
about the location, scene, event, their inspiration behind capturing the image along with
appropriate hashtags. There is no word limit.
3. The contest allows for multiple participants from the same institution. Individuals will
be marked separately.
4. Submissions must be emailed before the deadline and will not be accepted once the
deadline lapses.
5. Photos submitted must be of the highest quality possible and should be at least
1200x800 pixels. Photos must be in JPEG format.
6. Participant colleges may submit as many entries per round as they wish. However, you
will be allowed to upload only one submission per mail. Participants are encouraged to
attach original JPEG or RAW files with unchanged EXIF for the purpose of
authentication in the same mail. An image maybe disregarded if such original cannot be
provided for.
7. All submitted photos must contain the original EXIF metadata information. However,
there must be no border(s), logo(s), copyright marks, identifying marks, or any other
visible references and/or marks on the image.
8. Basic editing, including color enhancement, the use of filters, and cropping of the
Photo(s) is acceptable, provided any such editing does not affect the authenticity
and/or genuineness of the Photo(s).
9. Advanced editing used to create illusions, deceptions and/or manipulations, and the
adding and removing of significant elements within the frame is prohibited.

Winning
10. MPzero4 Org Comm will appoint curator / curators for each round of submission. This
will comprise of members of the Org Comm and / or others. They will curate the
submissions posting their top picks.
11. Submissions will be posted on MPzero4’s instagram page @mpzero4 along with the
caption sent in by the participants.
12. If selected, the photographer will be given notice prior posting of the picture and will be
free to campaign for it.
13. The participant with the most likes on our page “@mpzero4” at the end of three rounds
will be declared the overall winner. The results and the winners will be announced on
our instagram page.
14. Every image uploaded is subject to a moderation process before it becomes visible on
the MPzero4 Instagram page. MP04OC reserves the right to assess and disregard any
submitted photo at our discretion.

Intellectual Property Rights

15. Submitted photos must be original, created and/or taken by the contestant. It must not
contain any materials owned or controlled by a third party for which you have not
obtained a license, must not infringe the copyright, trademark, moral rights, rights of
privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity.
16. MPzero4 respects photographers’ copyrights and copyrights shall remain vested with
the creator of the image. Upon making the submission, you grant MP04 non-exclusive,
royalty free, sub-licensable right and license to use, publish, reproduce, display,
perform, adapt, create derivative works, distribute, have distributed, print, in whole or
in part, in any form, in all media forms now or hereafter known, to promote the contest,
image, the photographer or for editorial or educative use.
17. The Photographer will be credited wherever the image is used.

BULLS AND BEARS

1. Each group will comprise of 2 -3 members.


2. The occasion is a re-enactment of a stock exchange, where members would need to put
resources into offers of different organizations.
3. Each group would be given a virtual amount to put resources into the coffers of the
given Companies/organizations. Notwithstanding, there will be a cap on the sum that
can be put resources into each Company.
4. The whole occasion would be isolated into four rounds.
5. At the start of every round the members will be furnished with certain data (news and
bits of gossip) based on which the groups would be relied upon to contribute.
6. The stock costs would change in each round based on these news and bits of gossip.
7. The group with the most extreme total assets toward the finish of the 4th round (who
can create the most extreme profit for the underlying venture) would win.
8. Competition will include a recreated securities exchange where members will
demonstrate their business insight to guarantee the best prize.

ESSAY KAISE BC (CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION)

1. It is an individual event.
2. No cap on the number of participants.
3. Writings can either be NASR (Prose) or NAZM (Poetry).
4. Writings must strictly be in English only. It should be an original work. Originality of the
work is paramount, plagiarism leading to direct disqualification.
5. For NASR(Prose) – topics will be divided into four broad categories like technology, fun
fiction, flora and fauna etc. The actual topics and categories will be given at the time of
the event.
6. From the broad categories, a participant will be required to select a category and has to
pick a chit on which the objective topic will be given related to the broad category and
will have to write on that topic.
7. Word limit for Prose- 750-1000 words.
8. For NAZM (Poetry)- participants will be made to pick up a chit and a write a poetry on a
word mentioned or related to it.
9. No word limit for poetry, length is discretionary.
10. Time limit for writing- 1 hour.
LITERARY TRIATHLON

1. A team would consist of two members. The team would get to choose which member
would participate in the spoon race and the declamation. However, the quiz can be
participated in by both the members together. All three events can also be participated
in solo.

2. Game: Spoon race


a. The player would be given a lemon and a spoon
b. Their objective is to make it to the finish line quicker than the others.
c. They have to follow the course outlined.
d. The players advancing forward from this round would be decided according to the
total participation.
3. Game: Crossword
a. Format: Teams compete individually in the prelim round

b. Agenda: Finish answering as many clues/question of the Crossword in 10 minutes.


c. 8 Teams with the maximum answers qualify for the next round.
d. (Tie breaks will be decided on the basis of which teams answer the most number of
starred questions)
4. Game: Pop Quiz: Rules to be announced on the spot.
