Skill Level www.etsy.com/shop/sleepysheeppatterns/
Basic crochet and amigurumi skills, you will need to know how to make an invisible single
crochet decrease, a magic circle and how crochet in the round. If you wish to make the scarves
you will need to have basic knitting skills, otherwise you can either crochet scarves or use a
piece of fabric for scarves. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions, I will answer as
quickly as possible. Also check out my instagram and send me photos of your final creations!

Before you begin...
These deer are crocheted in the round and can be made with any size yarn or hook size it just
totally depends on how big you want your deer to be - you may need to adjust the eye size if you
use a larger yarn and hook size.
The yarn I used was Paintbox yarn cotton DK in Soft Fudge (main color), Vanilla Cream (belly,
tail), Paper White (bitty deer spots), Pure Black (nose and eyelashes). For the accessories I used
Paintbox yarn cotton DK in Coffee Bean (Papa and Bitty boy boots), Pure Black (details on
the papa and bitty boy boots), Black and White eyelash or fuzzy yarn (optional fuzzy details
on the boots), Ballet Pink (Mama deer’s rose, Bitty girl deer’s scarf), Blush Pink (Mama deer’s
scarf, Bitty girl deer’s rose), Pistachio Green (leaf details on roses, Bitty boy deer’s scarf), Racing
Green (Papa deer’s scarf).
My deer using the recommended yarn and hook size came out to be about 6.5” and the bitty
deer are about 4.5” not including the antler measurements. You can make however many deer
you want (to create the family that fits your needs) and the accessories are completely optional
and removable. Papa Deer and Mama Deer are both made from the same pattern so if you
want both just use the Deer Pattern and make 2, the same goes for the bitty deer!
Also the boots and scarves in this pattern should fit the bears as well! I have plans to release
clothing and accessory packs in the future (some free and some paid) so favorite my shop to
keep up with updates and send me photos of your creations or tag me on instagram I would
love to see what you guys create!!!
If you do not want to have a colored tummy (it sometimes comes out a little crooked looking if
you crochet too tightly) I have also provided instructions for a solid color tummy/body.
If you do not know how to knit or are uncomfortable knitting you are more than welcome to
either make scarves by double crochet stitches or cutting a piece of fabric. If you need knitting
help or a refresher a great website to use is knittinghelp.com.

Pin the ears onto the head and sew! If you are making a Mama deer you are finished and
can move onto the accessories sections. If you are making a Papa deer or a reindeer follow
the antler assembly instructions below.
Pin the antlers onto the head and sew. If using a size 3 weight yarn or DK yarn you do not
have to stuff them (I did not stuff mine) BUT if you are using a worsted weight or aran weight
(size 4-5) or if your antlers aren’t sturdy enough go ahead and stuff them before sewing.

Scarf - Papa and Mama Deer
Use 2.75mm straight knitting needles and either Racing Green yarn or Blush pink yarn
To Start - Cast on 8 sts (I use the Cable Cast on method but any method should
work fine). I work the scarf using a stockinette stitch.
To Finish - I like to add 1.5” of fringe on each end of Papa Deer’s scarf (you may
need more or less) and on Mama Deer’s scarf, I sew both ends of the scarf together
to create an infinity scarf. Tie your finished scarf onto your deer!
TIP: If you are uncomfortable knitting or want a different look - you can make a
scarf out of double crochet sts, treble sts or even using a piece of fabric. All of these
options look nice :) I just happened to be in a knitting sort of mood when I was
making these deer.
