A toy can be made of different types of yarn. It is important to choose

the appropriate eyes and hook size

I made a toy both of semi-cotton and plush yarn.

*a toy height made of Alize

Cotton Gold is 13 cm/5.1”
(colors: 40,166, 01, 33)

*a toy height made of Himalaya

Dolphin Fine is 22 cm/8,7”
(colors: 26, 05, 08,14)

* Please, pay attention to the fact that every person has his/her own style
and crochet density. The size of the finished toy may vary from the size
indicated in the pattern.

Let’s start crocheting the donkey. First, we are going to crochet and assembling
the head. We need to crochet eye-whites first so that they are attached together
with eyes in the process of crocheting the head. You can replace crochet eye-
whites with pieces of felt.

Eye-white (2 details):
*white semi-cotton yarn, 2 mm hook (for a bigger donkey use 0,5-1 mm larger
hook)

0. Chain 4;
1. (start in the 2nd chain from the hook) 2 SC, 4 SC into the last chain from the
hook, on the other side: SC, SS (8);
- join the oval with SS in the first St of a round;
- fix the thread, leave a long ending for sewing and withdraw it to the wrong side;
- insert the eyes so that they are offset to the centre (don’t fix the cap, if it is
available in the kit).

Eyelid (2 details):
*blue semi-cotton yarn, 2 mm hook (you may use a
larger hook size if the eyelids are small for the eyes)

1. 6 SC in MR;
- tighten the ring not to the end, so that the stitches
are located along the semicircle (see photo);
- fix the thread and leave a long ending for sewing.

10

Head:
*start working with ivory semi-cotton thread, 2 mm hook
*stuff in process

0. Chain 6;
- work in spiral (without a turning CH and SS) as in all amigurumi toys (oval-shape
detail);
1. (start in the 2nd chain from the hook) 4 SC, 3 SC into the last chain from the
hook; on the other side of the chain: 3 SC, INC (12);
2. INC, 3 SC, 3 INC, 3 SC, 2 INC (18);
3. SC, INC, 3 SC, (SC, INC)*3, 3 SC, (SC, INC)*2 (24);

5. 3 SC, INC, 3 SC, (3 SC, INC)*3, 3 SC, (3 SC, INC)*2 (36);
6. 4 SC, INC, 3 SC, (4 SC, INC)*3, 3 SC, (4 SC, INC)*2 (42);
7. 42 SC;
*next, we need to align the crocheting
with the initial round (if required) so that
the round begins exactly on the side of
the oval; for this purpose we move the
stitch marker one St above the line of the
initial chain (see photo)

*in Round 8 we make an extension

(increases) for a smile; to do it - work 3 SC
in one front loop; attach additional stitch
marker to back loops – so not to miss them,
because we are going to make a smile
tightening with the help of these back
loops further in Round 13

Final assembly:

- sew the head;

*I fix the head with pins

*use extra fiber filling to stuff the

neck area while sewing

for personal use only @olya.usolya

28
- make a thread mount of the legs:

* I use both semi-cotton and

synthetic thread for the thread mount
to make it stronger

o try on the paws, choose the appropriate position, so that the front legs support
the body while sitting and it is able to stand on all four legs;

*to make the mounting easier I use long

needles

for personal use only @olya.usolya

29
o insert a long needle through the body in the
place of mounting the 1st leg and withdraw it
in the place of mounting the 2nd leg;

o put the leg on the needle taking only

the front part of the fabric (not through
the whole leg), 2-3 SC and the fiber
filling;

o turn back through the same hole to the initial ending and put the 2nd leg on the
needle;

for personal use only @olya.usolya

30
o stretch the legs very well and tie the
thread endings, hide them in the body
through the same (initial) hole, so a knot
can hide inside;

*if a knot doesn’t hide, it

means that you hid the
endings not in the same
hole; re-do the mounting.

o sit the donkey down, do a thread mount as it is described above.

- cut black thread on pieces and insert them fixing

with knots: on the head – in spiral, on the back – two
rows along;

*for a bigger donkey use two

threads together in one knot

for personal use only @olya.usolya

31

* brush the mane and

straighten it with iron

- sew the tail and the button on the back.

for personal use only @olya.usolya
