A toy can be made of different types of yarn. It is important to choose

I made a toy both of semi-cotton and plush yarn.

YarnArt Jeans using 2 mm hook
 cotton/semi-cotton yarn (~330 m/100 g) (361 yds/3.53 Oz.) (YarnArt

Jeans, Alize Cotton Gold etc.) (main color consumption ~ 50 g, other
colors – less than 50 g):
*yarn consumption
- blue (main color); of Himalaya Dolphin
- ivory/beige/light-pink (for muzzle) Fine 170 m/100 g (190
- black (for embroidering eyelid line, nostrils and yds./3,5 Oz) for a
mane); bigger donkey is 1

ball of main color
- lilac (inner part of legs and belly);
- pink (inner part of ears);

- white (for eye-white; can be replaced with pieces of white felt);
 thin black thread like Iris, for embroidering stitch on the body;

Pattern Instructions
1. Step 1: Insert hook from the wrong side of the fabric into the gap
to the hook-side of the next stitch to be worked.
Step 2: Insert hook from front to back around the post into the far-
side.
INC - increase (work 2 stitches in the same St);
DEC – decrease (2SC together through the front loops);
(SC, INC)*6 (18) – repeat the combination in brackets 6 times, the
number in brackets is the total number of St in a round.

Let’s start crocheting the donkey. First, we are going to crochet and assembling
the head. We need to crochet eye-whites first so that they are attached together
with eyes in the process of crocheting the head. You can replace crochet eye-
whites with pieces of felt.
Eye-white (2 details):
*white semi-cotton yarn, 2 mm hook (for a bigger donkey use 0,5-1 mm larger
hook)
0. Chain 4;
1. (start in the 2nd chain from the hook) 2 SC, 4 SC into the last chain from the
hook, on the other side: SC, SS (8);
- join the oval with SS in the first St of a round;
- fix the thread, leave a long ending for sewing and withdraw it to the wrong side;
- insert the eyes so that they are offset to the centre (don’t fix the cap, if it is
available in the kit).
Eyelid (2 details):
*blue semi-cotton yarn, 2 mm hook (you may use a
larger hook size if the eyelids are small for the eyes)
1. 6 SC in MR;
- tighten the ring not to the end, so that the stitches
are located along the semicircle (see photo);
- fix the thread and leave a long ending for sewing.

Head:
*start working with ivory semi-cotton thread, 2 mm hook

parts are higher than the outer

- while sewing eyelids you may

circle the eye-white with blue
thread and fix it with a stitch;

*to make the mounting easier I use long

place of mounting the 1st leg and withdraw it
in the place of mounting the 2nd leg;
o put the leg on the needle taking only

the front part of the fabric (not through
the whole leg), 2-3 SC and the fiber
filling;
o turn back through the same hole to the initial ending and put the 2nd leg on the
needle;

o stretch the legs very well and tie the
thread endings, hide them in the body
through the same (initial) hole, so a knot
can hide inside;
*if a knot doesn’t hide, it

means that you hid the
endings not in the same
hole; re-do the mounting.
o sit the donkey down, do a thread mount as it is described above.
- cut black thread on pieces and insert them fixing

with knots: on the head – in spiral, on the back – two
rows along;
*for a bigger donkey use two

threads together in one knot
