Hook Holder

CURIOUS AMIGURUMI PATTERNS

TO OLS & M AT E R I A LS
This project will look great in a cotton yarn, as that will give it more structure. I recommend using
a DK weight cotton, but you could also try a 4-ply cotton or Aran weight cotton to change the size.
Below are the yarns and materials used to make the 2 samples.

SAMPLE 1
YARN - Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK (100% Cotton, 50g, 125m/137yds)
1 ball/40g in Mint - Macaron Green (470)
1 ball/25g in Sandy Brown - Light Caramel (409)
Small amount of Brown - Coffee Bean (411)
3.5mm hook
2.5mm hook for bow tie
Wadding or Foam Fabric Stabiliser
Weighed beads (optional)
5mm sew-on button eyes
Tapestry Needle
FINISHED SIZE: 15cm/5.9in tall

SAMPLE 2
YARN 1 - Rico Creative Ricorumi Spin Spin DK (100% Cotton, 50g,
115m/125yds)
1 ball in ombre Pink - Pink (004)
YARN 2 - Rico Creative Ricorumi DK (100% Cotton, 25g, 57.5m/62yds)
1 ball in Sandy Brown - Sand (071)
Small amount of Brown - Chocolate (057)
Small amount of Pink - Fuchsia (014)
3.5mm hook
2.5mm for cherry stalk
Toy Stuffing
Wadding or Foam Fabric Stabiliser
5mm sew-on button eyes
Tapestry Needle
FINISHED SIZE: 17cm/6in tall

TE N S IO N / GAUGE
If you want to match the sample gauge make
a small circle in your chosen yarn:
Rnd 1: start 7sc in a magic ring [7]
Rnd 2: inc in all 7 st [14]
Rnd 3: (1sc, inc in next st) repeat 7 times [21]
Fasten off.

When made in Paintbox Cotton DK yarn 3.5mm hook this

circle is about 2.5cm/1in in diameter.
When made in Ricorumi DK yarn with 3.5mm hook this
circle is about 3 cm/13/16 in in diameter.

Matching the exact gauge isn’t essential, but may

produce a bigger or smaller hook holder - adjust your
hook size until you get a texture you like!

NOTES

CONSTRUCTION The top of the ice cream is a long

triangular tube of crochet, rolled up and secured into
the swirling shape (visit my intagram highlights to
see a short video of this step). Stuffing the tube with
toy stuffing will create a more rounded ice cream top,
and stuffing it will foam fabric stabiliser will create a
slimmer, more angular top. SPECIAL STITCHES

PATTERN STARTS

1. Ice Cream Top Add a thin and even layer of stuffing into the shape - it
Make 1 in mint or your favourite flavour! should be relatively flat, about 1cm thick, when stuffed. To
get the stuffing into the tip of the shape you can fold back
Rnd 1: start 5sc in a magic ring [5] the wider section, gradually unfolding it as you add more
Rnd 2: sc in all 5 sts [5] stuffing. {img 13 - 14}
Rnd 3: inc in next st, 4sc [6]
Rnd 4: inc in next st, 5sc [7] Instead of stuffing you can also use wadding or foam fabric
Rnd 5: inc in next st, 6sc [8] stabiliser. It will be less puffy when compared with toy
Rnd 6: inc in next st, 7sc [9] stuffing but still give plenty of support to the shape. Cut two
Rnd 7: inc in next st, 8sc [10] pieces of stabiliser a little narrower than the crochet shape,
Rnd 8: inc in next st, 9sc [11] and place them in instead of stuffing - use a chopstick or
Rnd 9: inc in next st, 10sc [12] knitting needle to get the stabiliser into the tip. {img 5 - 6}
Rnd 10: inc in next st, 11sc [13] {img 1}
Rnd 11: inc in next st, 12sc [14] Now the shape is stuffed let’s add a little swirly tip and close
Rnd 12: sc in all 14 sts [14] up the open end.
Rnd 13: inc in next st, 13sc [15]
Rnd 14: sc in all 15 sts [15] Rnd 85: 3sc, 3sc in next st, 3sc, skip the remaining sts [9] {img 8}
Rnd 15: inc in next st, 14sc [16] Rnd 86: 4sc, 3sc in next st, 4sc [11]
Rnd 16: sc in all 16 sts [16] Rnd 87: 6sc (this will be the very tip of the swirl), skip the
Rnd 17: inc in next st, 15sc [17] remaining sts [6]
Rnd 18: sc in all 17 sts [17] Next, close the shape: ch1, fold the piece flat and work
Rnd 19: inc in next st, 1sc in each remaining st. through both layers to close up the side: 5sc along the tip,
Rnd 20: 1sc in each st. 2sc along the curved side of the tip, 22sc along the skipped
sts from Rnd 85 [29] {img 9 - 12}
Rnd 21 - 82: Repeat Rnds 19 and 20, increasing by 1 stitch
every other round, until the stitch total is 49sts. {img 2 - 3} Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
Rnd 83: inc in next st, 48sc [50]
Rnd 84: sc in each st around [50]
You should now have a very long narrow piece of crochet!
Pause crocheting to add some toy stuffing. {img 4}
