Incinerator

Environment

Disadvantages
- the most expensive waste treatment facilities especially when equipped with energy
recovery and advanced emission control technology.
-Dioxins are produced in the treatment and is a cancer forming chemical that produced in the smoke stack.

-lower carbon emission, avoidance of land contamination

Advantages
- the advantages of incinerator (with energy recovery) are typically the environmental
benefits such as lower carbon emission, avoidance of land contamination, higher energy
recovery per ton, outputs of ashes in inert form, (chemically stable without odor) and
requires a minimum area of land.

Economics

Advantages
-location which can be near to city and land value with less depreciation unlike landfill

-introduction of incinerators at tourism spots is to divert waste from the landfill as the
scarcity of land in island and highland area.
-lower dis-amenity cost, higher energy recovery potential, the outputs (ashes) have potential to be
reused and it only requires a minimum footprint compared to other disposal alternative.

-Sustainability concerns, economic viability and social tolerance level with respect to the
environment are fundamental.

Disadvantages
capital and operational cost of incinerator is much higher than a sanitary landfill, not cost
effective.
The need for huge waste to incinerate has led to abandonment of other plans for recycling and reuse of
waste.

The plants require skilled personnel for operation and continuous maintenance, most this skilled personnel
require higher paid.
