1. break up : (관계를) 정리하다, 해체하다

- They decided to break up the partnership.

- Police had to break up the crowd.

- It's nothing personal, but you should break up with her.

2. break out : (사건이) 발생하다, 두드러기가 나다, 탈옥하다

- She needed to break out of her daily routine and do something exciting.

- I break out in a rash when I eat cheese.

- Some experts think a war could break out.

3. break through : 뚫고 나가다, 돌파구를 찾다, 성공하다

- Scientists think they are beginning to break through in the fight against cancer.

- These birds are quite strong, and easily break through the hard shells of seeds.

4. call off : 중지하다, 취소하다, 포기하다

- Please call off your dogs!

9. come up with : 생각해내다, 제안하다, 마련하다

- Can you come up with the right answer?

10. carry on : 계속하다, 투덜대다

- Carry on until you get to the junction, then turn left.

- Carry on with your work while I’m away.

- He was shouting and carrying on.

11. carry out : 수행하다, 포장음식

- We do not ordinarily carry out this type of work.


- Let’s get a carry-out.

- It’s just talk. He’d never carry out his threats.

12. call for : 필요로 하다, 요구하다, 데리러 가다(오다)

20. figure out : 계산하다, 생각해내다, 이해하다, 알아내다

- I can’t figure out how to do this.

- I would figure out the real target market and develop a plan that would appeal to them.

- It is difficult to figure out what is causing chronic grief .

21. find out : 적발하다, 알아내다, 발견하다, 간파하다, 찾아내다

28. grow up : 성장하다, 철이 들다, 서서히 생겨나다
