Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is defined as the

acquisition, analysis, management, storage and exchange of information, as well
as the design, construction and innovation of software and equipment to be
used for these functions. ICT basically deals with the development and
utilization of various communication equipment such as computers, multimedia
platforms, mobile phones, Internet, among others, to find, edit, transmit, and
store information.
The development of ICT in our society has paved the way toward a unified
way of communication. The use of digital technology in ICT revolutionized lives
all over the world by opening time-smart and fund-smart communication media
which enable us to reach wider audiences and receivers within seconds. Many
of us used to send regular SMS costing us a peso for each transaction. When
technology developed, we can send multiple multimedia messages and make
video calls, and be charged by only a fraction of the old costs.
ICT in the Philippines
The Philippines is sometimes labeled by some international companies as
the “ICT Hub of Asia”. There is no doubt that ICT-related jobs such as
software development companies and call centers or BPO (Business Process
Outsourcing) centers have greatly expanded in our country. According to
wearesocial.com, a digital statistics survey conducted in January 2016 showed
that for a total of 101.47 million total population in the Philippines, there were
47.13 million active Internet users, roughly 48 million active social media users,
and 119.21 million mobile connections.
