QUESTION 1 [18 marks]

Solution:

Name and apply the steps of the cyclical relationship between planning and
control for Susan’s House Hotel.
(6 x 3 = 18 marks)
1. Determine objectives: Susan main objective is to improve the morale of her
employees by improving their motivation.
2. Formulate plans: Susan decides to take charge of the situation and
organise a staff meeting. Where group decision-making and techniques will
be set out to improve the motivational levels. 
3. Carry plans out: Based on the outcome of the staff meeting, she employs
five more staff members who will lift motivation levels. She places the new
five staff members in the most influenced departments.
4. Achieve results: A significant improvement overall except for the kitchen
staff that is still showing a lack of motivation due to the new staff member and
old staff members having personality clashes 
5. Compare results with objectives: The objective was to increase the overall
motivation of the staff. All staff members are more motivated except the
kitchen staff.
6. Take corrective action: Susan decides to move the new kitchen staff
member to a different department which he agreed upon. She then places an
old staff member upon request from another department into the kitchen. 
