with Properties Necessary to Support Life” EARTH • Is the only place in the universe that can support life because it possess the properties necessary for life. • It is modest sized planet that orbits around the sun. Life on EARTH is UBIQUITOUS
• Meaning can found everywhere.
• It is found in boiling mud pots and hots spring, deep oceans and even under Antarctic sheets. Many continental areas are too high or to cold for humans to steep inhabit, yet earth is so hospitable to life. CHARACTERISTICS OR FACTORS THAT MAKES EARTH UNIQUE OR HABITABLE EARTH HAS A WATER • Water covers approximately 70% of the earth’s surface and the rest 30% is available in the form of land for a terrestrial life form. • Blue planet as it looks blue from the space due to for presence of water bodies. ENERGY SOURCES ON EARTH •The primary source of energy for us is sunlight this energy flows from one organism to another in different ways. •Apart from sunlight there are many other sources of energy available on earth like wind energy, geothermal energy, hydroelectric energy. ATMOSPHERE
• The Earth has its atmosphere that extends up to
10,000km in the space. However it is dense up to 50km from the earth surface. Five(5) Main layers of Atmosphere • TROPOSPHERE – The air are breathe and clouds in the sky. • STRATOSPHERE – Ozone layer. • MESOSPHERE – Protects earth from large meteoroids. • THERMOSPHERE – the hottest layer, this layer can reached up to 4,500 degrees Fahrenheit, it is also absorbs the sun radiation making it very hot. • EXOSPHERE – It is the most distant layer of the Atmosphere and the First line that protects the planet against U.V RAYS and large meteoroids. TEMPERATURE AND DISTANCE • Only the earth’s surface is in this temperature range, having the right distance from the sun give the light temperature to our planet. • It’s a blessing to have ideal distance from the sun. • Earth is approximately 149,597,870,700 meters or 92.592 million miles away from the sun. NUTRIENTS •Planets without systems to deliver nutrients to its organism can’t support life. EARTH IS RICH IN MINERALS
• Earth is a treasure of various minerals
• Minerals are essential part of our life. • Earth has most of the iron content. Approximately 80% of the earths core is composed of iron. EARTH’S MOON • The earth has only one(1) moon. It plays vital role in balancing the climate of the planet. • It helps maintain the steadiness of Earth’s atmosphere. • It also helps to prevent unwanted extreme weather conditions in the earth by stabilizing the effects. EARTH IS BIG MAGNET
•Molten iron core of the earth create a
magnetic field called MAGNETOSPHERE. Earth has given us everything needed to survive. This is the reason why it address our planet “MOTHER EARTH”. EARTH AND EARTH SUBSYSTEMS The Earth system is essentially a closed system. It receives energy from the sun and returns some of this energy to space. ATMOSPHERE
• Theatmosphere is the thin gaseous layer that
envelopes the lithosphere. • The present atmosphere is composed of 78% nitrogen (N2), 21% oxygen (O2), 0.9% Argon, and trace amount of other gases. • One of the most important processes by which the heat on the Earth’s surface is redistributed is through atmospheric circulation. • There is also a constant exchange of heat and moisture between the atmosphere and hydrosphere through that hydrologic cycle LITHOSPHERE •The lithosphere includes the rocks of the crust and mantle, the metallic liquid outer core, and the solid metallic inner core. HYDROSPHERE • About 70% of the earth is covered with liquid water (hydrosphere) and much of it is in the form of ocean water. • Only 3% of Earth’s water is fresh: two-thirds are in the form of ice, and the remaining one-third is present in streams, lakes, and groundwater. BIOSPHERE • It covers all ecosystem – from the soil to the rainforest, from mangroves to coral reefs, and from the plankton-rich ocean surface to the deep sea. • It also called the large ecosystem.
