2.1 WAYS OF THE PARALYMPIC COUNCIL OF MALAYSIA IMPROVE THE SOCIETY’S
AWARENESS TOWARD THE SPORT PARTICIPANT

The Paralympic Council Of Malaysia (PCM) plan to encourage people to participate in

sports is by the public awareness campaigns. The Council run public awareness campaigns
through various media channels, including television, radio, print and social media. These
campaigns could highlight the achievements of Paralympic athletes, share their stories of
perseverance and success, and showcase the diversity and inclusivity of Paralympic sport.
Inspiration and empowerment by sharing the stories of Paralympic athletes can inspire people
with disabilities to participate in sport and lead active lifestyles. It can empower them to
overcome challenges and realise their potential in sports. When the public is more aware of
sports and the Paralympic Movement, there is a greater likelihood of gaining support from
various stakeholders, including government bodies, companies and individuals. By promoting
events and participation, campaigns can serve as a platform to promote upcoming Paralympic
events, competitions and activities, encouraging people to get involved and engage with the
sports community.

Accessible sports facilities play a crucial role in raising awareness and increasing
participation in sport. when sports facilities are accessible, more people with disabilities are
encouraged to participate. They can access the necessary equipment, facilities and amenities
that meet their specific needs, making it easier for them to participate in sport. By providing
accessible facilities, the Paralympic Council of Malaysia can nurture and develop the talents of
aspiring Paralympic athletes. Access to appropriate training environments will enhance skill
development and contribute to achieving higher levels of performance, while the awareness and
exposure that comes with having accessible sports facilities can attract media attention and
public interest. Events held in these facilities can raise awareness of adaptive sports, generate
positive media coverage and inspire others to participate. Physical activity is essential for
everyone's health and well-being, including people with disabilities. Accessible sports facilities
promote healthier lifestyles for all members of the community. Inspiration and role model, when
Paralympic athletes train and compete in accessible sports facilities, they become role models
for others, inspiring people with disabilities to take up sport and demonstrating the potential for
success at the highest level.
Besides that, media coverage is another way to increase community participate in
sports. Working with the media to increase coverage of Paralympic events and athletes can
significantly impact awareness. Special segments, articles and interviews with Paralympic
athletes can help the public understand the challenges they face and appreciate their sporting
talent. Media coverage of their achievements can be a powerful tool to spread awareness of
para-sports and enable the public to understand their challenges, while encouraging their
parents to allow them to participate in sporting activities. In addition, using social media and
maintaining an active online presence through social media platforms and the official website
can help to disseminate information, share success stories and engage effectively with the
public. This increased public awareness of disability sport provides opportunities to further
promote sport for persons with disabilities. In the context of socialization, it is seen to be able to
influence public awareness in creating a culture of healthy and active living. Social media also
able to provide exposure and direction to someone who has talent and interets in sports.
Furthermore, the information displayed on social media can be a stimulus to the community now
to be more interested in its participation and importance to the community.

In addition, Corporate partnerships can be very beneficial for the Paralympic Council of
Malaysia in achieving its goals of increasing awareness and participation in sports. Corporations
can provide financial support through sponsorship and funding. This financial support can be
used to organise events, improve training facilities, support athlete development and promote
awareness campaigns. Marketing and Media Support, Corporate Partners can use their
marketing resources and media reach to promote Paralympic events and activities. They can
run advertising campaigns, share Paralympic athlete stories and highlight the importance of
inclusive sport. Product Partnerships, by working with companies on co-branded products or
merchandise related to Paralympic sports, can help raise awareness and funds for the Council's
initiatives. CSR initiatives, many companies have Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
programmes that focus on community engagement and inclusivity. The Council can align itself
with these initiatives to reach a wider audience and raise awareness.
