continues to climb each month. We want to share our story that includes all of the great things
happening inside the walls of dear old Ripley High School.
We will post the link to the newsletter on our social media; however, it is recommended that you sign up
for the mailing list, which will allow these to be sent directly to your inbox each month. All you need to

VIKINGS AT WORK

Viking Cafe'
The Viking Café, started by Sarah Roark in 2019, is a simulated workplace designed to give students
an opportunity to integrate their learned cooking abilities to real-life restaurant experiences. Students
prepare food, prep ingredients, manage a restaurant budget and assemble delicious recipes. We all
work together to develop restaurant-quality meals to fulfill staff orders and cater to school events. "I
want my students to know how important quality work is in the restaurant industry. The students
work very hard to maintain a great reputation for quality and service." Sarah Roark and Lindsay
Quesenberry are so proud of how well the program is supported by everyone at Ripley High.

Academic Showdown
The new academic competition brings teams together from across the state for five regional
matchups on college campuses. We are one of two teams that have qualified for the statewide
championship in Charleston in March.

Topics include questions about literature, math, history, science, geography, fine arts,
religion/mythology, social science, philosophy, current events, pop culture, and general knowledge.
The initiative represents a partnership among the state Department of Education, the state Higher
Education Policy Commission, West Virginia Public Broadcasting, and the West Virginia Department of

The Show Must Go On! Ripley Theater is back this year after not being able to perform since March of
2019. The department performed Radium Girls in November and is gearing up for Festival Season.
They will host the Area V regional festival on Jan. 29, 2022, and kids whose projects advance and
those who participate in the one-act will attend the state festival in March at Marshall University.

Auditions for the spring musical, County Fair, will be Jan. 31-Feb 2. Mrs. Iman and Mrs. Fisher will
team up to produce this “County Music Jukebox” show featuring several popular country tunes, like
“The House the Built Me” and “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” as well as a few original songs. Word has
it that Ripley is the first school in West Virginia to license this show. It will be performed April 22-24,
2022.

Student Athletic Trainers

This is the 11th year of having Athletic Training classes here at Ripley High. On average each year we
have 20-30 students taking classes in Athletic Training. Ripley High School has three classes in Athletic
Training. Students start taking the classes as Juniors and then they can apply to be an Athletic
Training Aide their Senior year. The number of students each year will differ depending on the
applications.

The Senior students average over 250 hours of after-school coverage of football and other sports
from August 1 until the last game of the season. This is volunteer time for them and so happy with this
group this season. In 2021, Ripley High School had 6 students working during football season.
