COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY AND PERSUASION MESSAGES

In the past couple of weeks, we’ve discussed communication technologies used in the workplace,
how to prepare for a persuasive interview and communicate persuasive messages. The role of
communication technologies in business is to provide tools and systems that enable efficient
communication, data management, analysis and decision-making processes. Tusubira and Mulira
(2009) stated that communication technology opens new opportunities for the advancement of
the organization to achieve the set goals. Therefore, organizations need to prepare for changes in
terms of organizational structure, technology or workforce. As an aspiring financial analyst,
embracing communication technologies is very crucial to my career path to stay competitive and
efficient in today’s fast-paced and interconnected financial landscape. These technologies
provide analysts with real-time data and information, provide tools and platforms that facilitate
seamless collaboration and teamwork regardless of physical location (video conference, virtual
meetings, shared online workspace, emails), and offer a range of tools and software for data
visualization and report generation. Always ask questions about technological tools due to
advancements in cybersecurity and data protection.

Magee (2014) identifies the four (4) requirements of persuasion: “a conscious intent to persuade;
the communication of a message; the message receiver’s free will; and an impact on the
receiver’s attitudes.” Persuasion and other forms of communication differ significantly from one
another. The basic elements of persuasion are credibility, benefits, emotion, logic, anticipating
objections, recognizing the power of loss and offering a reasonable request. Key points to
consider in persuasive communication are avoiding logical fallacies and appealing to the
audience's emotions. To apply for my desired career, there are a few things I’ve learned that
would be extremely helpful while preparing for and attending a persuasive interview. Firstly,
researching the company is one thing that should never be neglected. Researching the
interviewer to see if there’s a relationship is a good idea. Secondly, when asked about one’s
weakness, don’t share anything detrimental to one self and lastly, always ask questions. Never
inquire about the pay, benefits and vacations and it is an excellent strategy to email each
interviewer a thank you note.
