Beberapa pelumas Q8 dirancang khusus dengan teknologi dan additive terkini untuk melindungi mesin dari efek LSPI, LSPI ini sendiri
biasa timbul akibat gabungan penurunan kapasitas CC mesin turbo dan pemakaian teknologi direct injection. Banyak pabrikan mobil
yang membuat mesin-mesin baru dengan kapasitas CC kecil (dibawah 1500CC) dengan tujuan efisiensi bahan bakar, tetapi mesin
tetap memiliki tenaga dan torsi besar dengan penerapan teknologi mesin berkompresi tinggi, turbo dan direct injection dengan
tekanan atau boost yang sangat tinggi.

Dengan mesin bertorsi besar mulai dari putaran mesin rendah sampai tinggi ditambah akselerasi cepat dan tiba-tiba pada putaran
mesin rendah akan mengakibatkan kerja mesin menjadi berat dan menimbulkan timbunan deposit atau kerak oil pada permukaan

dinding silinder atau ruang bakar. Kerak ini akan tersebar didalam ruang bakar setelah tersapu ring piston dan bercampur dengan
bahan bakar dari sembuaran injeksi langsung bertekanan tinggi, yang pada akhirnya dapat mengakibatkan pengapaian dini atau
pengapaian abnormal yg biasa disebut pre ignition (Pada mesin ber CC besar LSPI ini relatif lebih mudah diatasi karena dengan
kapasitas ruang bakar yang lebih besar penempatan injektor yang menyemburkan bahan bakar langsung menjadi lebih flexible dan
dapat diatur letaknya).

Hal ini akan mengakibatkan mesin knocking dan merusak pelumas atau oli mesin. Dan jika dibiarkan akan mengakibatkan kerusakan
pada dinding silinder atau ruang bakar yang berakibat fatal buat mesin untuk itu dibutuhkan pelumas mesin khusus agar mengurangi
kerak tersebut dan juga menjadikannya tidak mudah terbakar menjadi bara api.

ACEA adalah standar pelumas yang dikeluarkan oleh European
Automobile Manufacturers Association. Asosiasi ini beranggotakan
pabrikan2 automotive besar seperti : BMW, DAF, DAIMLER, FIAT, FORD,
GM, JAGUAR, LANDROVER, MAN, PORSCHE, PSA PEUGEOT CITROEN,
RENAULT, SCANIA, TOYOTA, VW dan VOLVO.
Karena kendaraan seperti ini memakai catalyst khusus, penggunaan
pelumas yang tidak sesuai dapat merusak Filter Catalystnya.

Selain ACEA dan API, pabrikan mobil besar juga mengeluarkan standar
pelumas yang sesuai untuk kendaraan produksi mereka, contohnya :
• Daimler atau Mercedez Benz MB 229.3, MB 229.31, MB 229.5 dan
yang terbaru untuk mesin high performance seperti AMG adalah MB
229.51.
• BMW LL04 yang merupakan standar tertinggi BMW
• Dan masih banyak pabrikan lainnya seperti VW, Renault, GM dan
lain-lain.

ACEA membagi standart pelumas mesin otomotif secara detail menjadi :

• Untuk mesin bensin : Dimulai dengan huruf A contohnya : A1 - A3

• Untuk mesin diesel passenger car : Dimulai dengan huruf B

Tingkat kekentalan pelumas ditandai dengan SAE nya.
Tingkat kekentalan pelumas mesin terbagi menjadi 2 macam :
• Single grade contohnya : SAE 40, SAE 90 dll
• Multi grade contohnya : SAE 10W40, 5W40, 5W30
Makin kecil angka SAE nya berarti makin encer pelumas tersebut,
makin besar berarti makin kental.
Jenis multi grade selangkah lebih maju karena tingkat kekentalannya
dapat berubah-ubah sesuai suhu kerja mesin, contohnya 10W40
berarti dalam keadaan paling dingin tingkat kekentalannya 10,
kemudian dapat meningkat sampai 40 dalam keadaan paling panas.
Jenis pelumas yang baik untuk kendaraan anda bukanlah yang encer
atau yang kental tetapi yang sesuai seperti requirement pabrikan
mobil, kondisi dan umur mesin kendaraan.
Untuk mesin-mesin yang relatif sudah cukup lama (misalnya diatas
10thn) atau kondisinya sudah kurang baik, pelumas yang cocok adalah
yang agak kental.
Sebaliknya untuk mesin-mesin yang relatif masih baru dan kondisi
mesinnya masih prima, lebih cocok pelumas yang lebih encer.
Terutama untuk mesin-mesin teknologi terbaru menuntut pemakaian
oli yang lebih encer untuk menjangkau sela-sela mesin yang cenderung
semakin rapat, presisi dan high performance.
Keunggulan pelumas yang encer dan berkualitas antara lain :
• Penyebarannya lebih cepat dan dapat menjangkau sela-sela yang
sempit.
Dengan demikian memberikan perlindungan yang lebih baik
terutama waktu cold start.
• Karena terbuat dari bahan sintetis sehingga lebih kuat terutama
untuk kondisi ekstrem
• Tarikan mesin menjadi lebih ringan dan dapat menghemat bahan
bakar (Energy Concerving)
• Lebih kuat dan tahan lama.
Karena oli encer membentuk lapisan film di metal yang relatif lebih
tipis, maka dibutuhkan oli-oli yang berkualitas tinggi sehingga lapisan
film di metal walau tipis tapi lebih kuat sehingga tetap memberikan
perlindungan yang optimal terhadap mesin. Karena itu dibutuhkan
oli-oli semi sintetis atau bahkan full sintetis yang berkwalitas tinggi.
Banyak orang berpendapat oli encer hanya cocok untuk di tempat
yang bersuhu dingin, sekarang kita tahu bahwa pendapat itu tidak
sepenuhnya benar. Karena kemajuan dan perkembangan teknologi
mesin mobil yang pesat saat ini memang membutuhkan oli-oli encer
dan berkualitas tinggi. Periksalah buku manual kendaraan anda atau
