that are free for everyone to enjoy as a way
to permanently thank the knitting

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
31 inches (78 cm) circumference and 13¼
inches (33 cm) long.
MATERIALS
Main Yarn:
1 skein of Rastita by Malabrigo (100% merino;
100g/310 yards) or 310 yards [285 m] of light
DK or heavy sport weight yarn. Shown in the
colorway Plomo.
Contrasting Colors:
Leftovers of ngering weight yarn in 6
di erent colors, adding a total of approx. 310
yards [285 m]. I used di erent brands and
textures and picked colors that formed an
fade (ombre or gradient) progression. You will
need approx. 15g (52 yards [47 m]) of each
color. You could also use any 6-mini-skein
set or mini-skeins that di erent dyers o er.

darkest last.
Needles: US 5 [3.75 mm] and US 8 [5mm]
circular needles, 24" [60 cm] long.
Other notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle.
GAUGE
18.5 stitches and 27 rows to 4" [10 cm] in
Lace Pattern on US 8 [5 mm] needles after
blocking.
Gauge is not crucial for this project. However,
changes might result in a di erent yardage
requirement.

You can pick any color combination and you

don't need to make an ombre progression,
you can arrange them as you prefer! In my
Tips for substituting
I encourage you to nd in your stash any materials that
may work for this cowl.
It can be worked with multiple combination of yarn
you like that gives you a similar gauge.
I used a strand of DK + 1 of ngering, but you could
also use 3 strands of ngering...
You can also use just 2 strands of ngering: it will
make a lighter and slightly smaller version.

 DIRECTIONS Rounds 8, 10, 12: (P1, k11) to end.

Before starting, wind up a small ball (10g) of
your main yarn for double stranding in the
ribbed hems.
Using smaller needle and 2 strands of your
main yarn, CO 144 sts. Pm and join for
working in the round, being careful not to
twist your stitches.
Round 1: (K1, p1) to end of round.
Repeat this round 3 more times. Break the
strand that belongs to the smaller ball.
Start Lace
Change to larger needles.
For this section you need to change your
contrasting color every 14 rounds. To do so,
just break the thread of contrasting color that
you were using and join in the new one,
always carrying your main color throughout
your project.
Charted instructions
Round 1: With a strand of MC and a strand of
your rst companion color, work row 1 of the
lace chart and repeat to end of round.
Continue knitting in this manner always
working the next row of the chart in the round
until you have completed the chart 4 times
(or until you reach your desired length)
remembering to change your CC every 14
rounds.
Round 9: (P1, k2tog, k2, yo, k3, yo, k2, ssk) to
end.
Round 11: (P1, k1, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, ssk,
k1) to end.
Round 13: (P1, k2tog, k2, yo, k3, yo, k2, ssk) to
end.
Round 14: Same as round 6.
Round 15: Same as round 7.
Rounds 16, 18, 20: (P1, k11) to end.
Round 17: Same as round 5.
Round 19: Same as round 3.
Repeat rounds 1-20 for a total of 4 repeats (or
until you reach your desired length)
remembering you change your CC every 14
rounds.
Final ribbing
Switch to smaller needles. I made my nal
ribbing carrying 1 thread of main color and
the contrasting color I used for my last repeat
of the lace. You can do this or you can break
your CC and join in a second strand of your
main color again.
Next round: (K1, p1) to end.
Repeat this round 3 more times and on the
foll round BO all sts in pattern.

Written instructions
Round 1: (P1, yo, k2, ssk, k3, k2tog, k2, yo) to
end.
Rounds 2, 4: (P1, k11) to end.
Round 3: (P1, k1, yo, k2, ssk, k1, k2tog, k2, yo,
k1) to end.
Round 5: (P1, k2, yo, k2, s2kp, k2, yo, k2) to
end.
Round 6: (P1, k11) to 1 st before end, slip last st
to the right needle, remove marker, place the
slipped st back on the left needle, replace
marker.
Round 7: (S2kp, k2, yo, k5, yo, k2) to end.
