The line chart provides information about the percentage of cars in British families between 1971 and

2007.

Overall, the percentage of the people who had two cars significantly increased over the given period,
whereas the number of household with no car experienced a downward trend.

In 1971, nearly a half of population in Great Britain owned no car. In terms of the number of
household had two cars, there was around 45%, but only about 8% had two cars. At the same time,
the percentage of owner who had more than three reached the lowest point, only around 2%. The
one-car household and the household with no car had the same percentage in 1975, approximately
46%.

The figures of one-car families stayed with very little change over 36 years period. The number of
households without car dropped rapidly, around 25% in 2007. In constrast, the percentage of people
had two cars saw a dramatic increase, around twice times compared with the early 1970s. The
proportion of household with three or more cars peaked at 2007 but still remained under 10% from
1971 to 2007.
