WRITING TASK 1: BAR CHART

The chart compared the percentage of homeowners and renters in

England and Wales from 1918 to 2011.
It is noticeable from the bar chart that during the first half period, the
proportion of householders was higher than that of households in
rented accommodation, while an opposite trend was witnessed over
the last forty years.
In 1918, the percentage of homeowners was more than 75%, which
tripled that of the home renters. This figure decreased dramatically by
25% from 1918 to 1971 in spite of a 4-year stable period (1939-1953) of
70%. The proportion of families renting houses was an inversely
proportional trend to that of households owned accommodation. In
1918, this figure for house renting was just nearly 25%. From 1939 to
1953, the figure stayed unchanged at around 30% before increasing
sharply to equal that of the home owning.
From 1971 to 2011, the percentage of home ownership continued its
falling trend to only 30% in 2011. During the same period, the
proportion of tenants saw a different pattern in the trend. The figure
rose up enormously and hit the peak of almost 70% in 2001. (187
