The bar chart indicates how many people at the age of 25-34 either rent or
own houses in the UK over a period of 10 years starting in 2000.
Overall, the proportion of homeowners saw a downward trend, while the
renters witnessed an upward trend during the period shown.
Between 2000 and 2014, the percentage of people owning houses declined
enourmously from around 60% to about under 40%, whereas there was a
significant increase in tenants at around 20% to approximately 50%. The
period from 2009 to 2014 saw a modest decrease in the amounts of
homeowners from around 50% to about 35% but the people who rent houses
climbed substantially by around 20%. In addition, the number of people who
own houses and renters remained stable to the end of the period at around
40% and over 40% in the given order from 2011 to 2012.
